The advent of an effective salary cap could - if everyone plays by the same rules - make recruiting more strategic and nuanced than ever before. Here’s the average percentage spent by position of an NFL team: QB - 8-12% RB - 3-5% WR - 8-12% TE - 2-5% OL - 15-20% DL (includes DT/Edge) - 15-20% LB - 8-12% DB - 12-18% ST - 1-2% ** Like every football team subject to a rev share/cap (be it NFL or college), Texas has soft-circled amounts for each of its positions. As we head down the homestretch of these two recruitments, there has been some movement. While top-rated tackle John Turntine looks more and more likely to choose the Longhorns tomorrow, the same can not be said for Mansfield Lake Ridge lineman Felix Ojo. Ojo, who has visited Texas, Ohio State, Texas Tech, Florida, Ole Miss and Utah, is expected to announce his decision tomorrow at 1pm. Ojo is telling some that his decision is expected to come down to Ohio State and Texas. However, Texas Tech is considered very much in the mix. Earlier today, we reported Texas Tech had made a push for Mansfield Lake Ridge offensive lineman Felix Ojo. That continues to be the case. In fact, Tech’s NIL offer to Ojo is said to be larger than that of both Texas and Ohio State. Subsequent to our reporting, two reporters from On3 logged predictions around 6pm this evening for Ojo to pick Texas Tech. At 10am this morning, Mayde Creek linebacker Kosi Okpala is expected to break the recent recruiting dry streak for the Horns. Okpala has also been considering Penn State, Baylor, Miami and Houston, as well as the Longhorns. He’s an athletic, play-making linebacker who, when you watch him on tape, moves so well that his actual size surprises you. As you all know by now, summer workouts started at the beginning of this month. I can confirm that everyone has made it to campus. This includes the incoming freshmen that weren’t early enrollees and all portal players. — I’m told that workouts are going very well, but that they are extremely difficult.
