VIP Notes: Texas leads for 4-star OOS LB? Dublin, Ga. - OnTexasFootball took in morning workout at Troup County High in LaGrange, Ga.. The reason why was OnTexasFootball 4-star+ linebacker Jeremiah Culpepper. This morning was an interesting intel gathering, to be clear. Here are OTF's VIP Notes from the visit. *Culpepper played at 183-185 pounds as a junior on the HUDL tape. He weighed in at 206 pounds this morning. He's got such a high ceiling. Three quick notes: 1. We are told that junior defensive lineman Maraad Watson, who transferred from Syracuse a year ago, is having an excellent and consistent winter workout session. At this point, coaches will be surprised if he doesn't have a significantly better and more impactful second season in Austin than his first one. 2. I neglected to mention one freshman over the weekend who we are hearing positive comments about. It's Boulder, Colo., product Toray Davis. Davis is working at safety and early reports are promising. Brown, Smothers to Allow Texas to Return to Their Style of Running *** There were plenty of things that stood out in the 50-minute press conference from Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian on Monday. Among the talking points from Monday's session – and there were many – a comment about the running game immediately caught my interest. Prospects to Follow in March *** Spring football is back in 13 days on the 40 Acres. Not only does a semblance of Texas Football return to campus, but the world of high school recruiting will resume as well. The dead period wraps up in six days as we turn the calendar to March. The Latest on Laurence Seymore *** Texas Longhorns football head coach Steve Sarkisian struck a measured but optimistic tone Monday morning as he met with local media ahead of spring practice. While outlining Texas’ offseason offensive line additions, Sarkisian grouped transfer tackle Laurence Seymore alongside fellow portal pickups Melvin Siani, Dylan Sikorski, and Jonte Newman. For the time being, Seymore is expected to arrive in the summer, though his eligibility for the 2026 season remains under review. “I feel very good about the additions of Melvin (Siani), Dylan (Sikorski), Jonte (Newman), Laurence (Seymore),” Sarkisian said. Recruiting Nuggets The Texas staff continues to lock in official visit dates for prospects from coast-to-coast. The Longhorns have upwards of 40 official visitors locked in, with around 30 having announced dates. One position that hasn't had any prospects announce official visits is interior defensive line. Let’s talk about some of the defensive newcomers in the freshman class and what we’ve heard the last couple of days and end it with a couple of notes on offense: - If you’re asking who is the biggest surprise of all freshmen so far, look no further than California linebacker Rocky Cummings. Cummings not only has the physique of a big-time prospect but he has already clocked 21+mph while showing ample athleticism. SEC Hoops: Texas at Georgia Game Thread Texas (17-9, 8-5) is on a five game winning streak in SEC play, but will now enter the toughest four game stretch of the season due to what's on the line. First up, is a trip to the Peach State to take on 18-8 (6-7 in SEC) Georgia. The Bulldogs are coming off an upset win at Kentucky, which stopped a skid of losing five of the last six games. The bottom line for the Longhorns is clear. Texas has to win one more game to be a near lock to be in the Field of 68 headed into the SEC Tournament. New Official Visit Set + Spring Visit Dates *** 2027 South Oak Cliff DB Isaiah Udom has set an official visit for the Texas Longhorns for June 12-14, he tells OTF. Udom earned his Texas offer on February 2nd and has quickly risen the board to where an official visit was set. The Longhorns will also receive an unofficial from Udom on March 28th, which is becoming one of the more popular weekends of the spring so far. The 6-foot, 185-pound safety is currently unranked, but expected to be one of the biggest risers in the spring given the end of the winter where Texas, Florida, Missouri and SMU all offered. Texas Recruiting Board (Feb. 19) The Texas staff is preparing for spring practice this month, while also setting up March and April unofficial visits along with locking in official visits. With more than 30 new offers made in January and a few more in February, the 2027 recruiting board is beginning to come into focus. This morning, we list the names that OTF believes are currently the key names on the recruiting board. This list is made with the understanding that the list will change over the next 2-3 months. SEC Hoops: Mid-week NCAA Tournament look Texas won, and advanced Tuesday night beating LSU 88-85. It wasn't pretty, and it was the first game in a while Texas struggled down the stretch making key free throws (Texas had shot 82.5% from the foul line the last nine games). With the win, the Longhorns are now 8-5 in SEC play. That means Sean Miller's squad is one win away from being a virtual lock to be part of the NCAA Tournament. The Texas men’s tennis team won the Indoor National Championship yesterday defeating No. 2 ranked Ohio State, 4-2. It’s the first-ever national indoor championship for the men’s team and coach Bruce Berque. Senior Sebastian Gorzny, who is ranked no. 10 in the country and plays line one for Texas, recorded a doubles victory and won his singles match in straight sets. The Texas Longhorns are expected to add Western Kentucky DL coach Kwahn Drake to the staff in an assistant defensive line coach capacity, per Matt Zenitz. Drake was hired a month ago at WKU after spending three seasons with the Houston Roughnecks and Houston Gamblers of the USFL and UFL leagues. Prior to that, Drake had spent time at Colorado, Memphis, Tulane, Kansas and Eastern Illinois, all in defensive line capacities. The two years at Kansas were spent under Les Miles. In what was described as a “mutual decision” by a Texas source, the Longhorns and Arizona State are working to cancel their 2032-2033 home-and-home series. “We both agreed the game needed to be cancelled in order to be nimble moving forward,” a high-ranking Texas athletic department official told On Texas Football.
