A lot of national pundits are surprised - shocked even - when Texas secures a major commitment from an out-of-state recruit. Think of Derrek Cooper last night, the reactions toward Tyler Atkinson a week ago or even to Arch Manning three years ago. The reactions are those of surprise, of disbelief. They act almost flabbergasted. To me, it’s worth a good-humored chuckle. Doubt the power of the Longhorns at your own expense. But I also feel there are legitimate reasons behind the surprise. I think there are two parts that cause these reactions: First, and this is completely understandable, we all know Texas historically has placed its focus primarily…

It will be OV weekend No. 2 and another opportunity for the Longhorn staff to build out its 2026 class. After five commitments in a span of 72 hours dating back to Saturday, Texas is rolling on the recruiting trail and will host another very talented crop of national prospects. *** Jalen Lott, WR/ATH, Frisco (Texas) Panther Creek OnTexasFootball ranking: 4-star++ Texas gets a chance to host one of the state's most dynamic prospects in Jalen Lott this weekend. Texas Junior Day Takeaways The Texas Longhorns hosted junior day for the 2027 cycle Saturday. The visitor list also included some 2028's, but the 27's were the focus. Texas made two new offers (OL and QB) as there starts to become some separation in state in the cycle ahead of two more weeks of in person evaluation this month. Texas leads … OnTexasFootball feels like Texas has clear leads for a trio of top targets on campus Saturday. Peyton Miller, C, Anna (Texas) High - The Longhorns are the clear and substantial favorites headed into spring visits and June OV's. Fellas, I hope you all appreciate how much better the OTF website is nowadays than what it was just a few short months ago. While Gerry, CJ, Jeff, Blake and myself tried to give you as much info and interaction as we could, there is no doubt in my mind that the additions of Hank and Jordan are taking us to another level here—not only in information, but also interaction on the message boards with you. I’m very thankful they decided to join us. And I’m also thankful that so many of y’all have either stuck with us this entire time as OG’s or joined us more recently. I truly believe we’re building something special at OTF for all true Longhorn fans. …

Whether it's commitment announcements or decisions leading up to commitments in early July, the 2027 class for the Longhorns will go over 20 pledges combined public and private. Thompson OTF percentages: 75% Announcement date: June 25 Kyron Brown, WR, Amarillo (Texas) Palo Duro OTF percentages: 75% Announcement date: …

Let’s compare the proposed 2026 offensive unit to the 2025 one. Tell me which unit you think is better. Offense 2026 QB - Arch Manning - a year older, and more mature RB - Hollywood Smothers - leading rusher in the ACC replacing Tre Wisner RB - Raleek Brown - leading rusher in the Big 12 WR - Cam Coleman - expected top 10 overall pick in 2027 draft WR - Ryan Wingo - a year older WR - Emmett Mosley V - a year older TE - Nick Townsend/Michael Masunas - Jack Endries is a loss here OT - Trevor Goosby - a year older OG - Dylan Sikorski/Jordan Coleman - the one position on offense with major question marks OC - Conner …

Texas Hoops: Sean Miller putting together the tallest roster ever at Texas Sean Miller and staff added 7-foot-1 international center Lewis Obiorah Saturday, adding to what is now very likely the tallest roster in Texas basketball history. The Longhorns have added six new players to the roster with two more spots available to be filled. The six players added are 7-foot-1, 7-foot, 6-foot-10, 6-foot-8, 6-foot-7 and a 6-foot-4 combo guard. The additions, along with keeping 6-foot-8.5 forward signee John Clark in the fold and retaining 6-foot-9 Nic Codie, 6-foot-6 guard Tramon Mark and 6-foot-3 guard Chendall Weaver has created the tallest/longest roster I have seen …

Friday recruiting Texas staff is closing in on potential huge victories. OTF shares the latest ... Landen Willliams-Callis … I will continue to reiterate that a person very key in this recruitment can envision Williams-Callis being the next great running back to wear the burnt orange and white. The question right now is who is truly the Longhorns competition? A decision is expected by mid-July, or even earlier. OTF percentage: 75.54% Ismael Camara … The “French Freak” continues to close in on a decision. And that decision could come at any time over the next 2-3 days. OTF continues to have Texas as the heavy favorite for the 6-…

Practice no. 5 for the Horns starts today at Denius in about 30 minutes. ** Justus Terry and Rasheem Biles. Based on what I've been told, those two are making the most disruptive plays so far on defense. What do they have in common? Elite quickness and speed for the position they play. But they also give up a little size for their positions. As the pads come on this week, let's see if the disruption trend carries on. While I tend to think it will, sometimes when OLs are able to start leaning a little more on DLs and LBs, it can negate their level of disruptiveness, especially later in practices and over the course of training camp. Neither ar…

Sometimes it’s hard to keep up with the transfer portal. And that’s understandable. Texas has added 16 players to its roster in less than three weeks. The Longhorns have lost 22 in about the same period of time. The portal is akin to an entire recruiting cycle jammed into a single month. It has been a whirlwind. Texas is still looking to add a couple of players, especially on the offensive line. ** The latest commitment, Markus Boswell, is a the son of former Olympic high jumper (and UT grad) Mark Boswell. Markus played at Lake Travis and was a first-team all district performer in 2023. He then played ball at a prep school for a year bef…

Friday team notes OnTexasFootball brings team notes to begin Friday. Jordan Coleman OTF has mentioned that it's a possibility redshirt freshman left tackle Jordan Coleman may get some reps at left guard. Coleman took a few reps outside during the media window at left guard in drills. It's going beyond that, however. I was informed that Coleman got live 11 on 11 reps at left guard when practice moved to the indoor on day one. He's clearly being cross trained, but the staff also wants to take a look at him at the position as part of the competition on some level. Working Pony Package on Day One Steve Sarkisian wasted little time getting a look at the P…

With the departure of Chad Scott yesterday, the Horns are now in need of an RB coach. One name to watch for: Jabbar Juluke, formerly of Florida. Another with less certain availability is Frank Wilson of LSU. Texas is looking for a coach with strong ties to New Orleans and/or another major metro area in the South (think Atlanta, Miami, Orlando or New Orleans). However, timing is something to consider. For those wanting or expecting a quick turnaround, keep in mind that that is not typically the style of Steve Sarkisian. He likes to make deliberate decisions, not rushed ones, when it comes to assistant coaches. ** While almost everyone is conce…

Latest on Michael Fasusi Lewisville (Texas) High 5-star OT and Oklahoma verbal Michael Fasusi made a visit to Texas yesterday with his father and sister. OnTexasFootball spoke with two sources close to the recruitment to get the behind the scene returns. The visit went very well from both reports. One source said, "Much better than the June official visit". The conversations were all viewed as very positive - from football, to Kyle Flood's development, S&C being able to maximize the DFW star, etc... A second source feels "really optimistic" about the Longhorns chances. Both sources believe Texas has a legit shot in the recruitment. This was not a …

Good morning, everyone! How was your Tuesday? 😉 ** When I tell you there was a little bit of shock and awe on the floor of the College Football Hall of Fame in the hours following Tyler Atkinson committed to the Longhorns, that would be an understatement. Some Georgia reporters were dumbfounded. Reporters from other teams just shook their heads in quiet astonishment. When James Johnson committed to Texas literally moments after Arch Manning left the podium, the day of the Longhorns was officially complete. And the rest of the SEC could only sit back and watch. Yesterday, the Longhorns owned SEC Media Days. ** With the pledges y…

Jaime Ffrench: Decision Countdown Jacksonville (Fla.) Mandarin wide receiver Jaime Ffrench is set to announce his commitment in 24 hours. The ceremony will take place at Mandarin High at 7:25 a.m. central time on Friday. Ffrench, 6-1 and 185 pounds, will announce out of Texas, Miami, Tennessee and LSU. The Texas Longhorns have been trending in this recruitment since an unofficial visit in the spring with his parents. Wide receivers coach Chris Jackson and head coach Steve Sarkisian have built very strong relationships during the recruitment. The official visits LSU - May 31-June 2 Miami - June 7-9 Tennessee - June 14-16 Texas - J…

Friday Morning Recruiting Nuggets The Texas Longhorns currently sit inside the top 15 of the 2025 class rankings with a number of key announcements still to come. Steve Sarkisian and staff have 15 commitments with the class expected to end up with 23 or 24 signees. With the dead period set to conclude July 24, there is the chance that Texas hosts a number of visitors the last weekend of the month. Last weekend of July visitors San Antonio (Texas) Alamo Heights 4-star+ athlete Michael Terry III is scheduled to be on campus at some point next weekend (or late next week). Texas continues to trend in the right direction in this recruitment with Oreg…

Texas football recruiting marches to its own pace. Every time you think there might be a run of commitments, the call for “patience” almost immediately re-introduces itself. Sark doesn’t mind that. Neither does Brandon Harris. After all, it’s how you finish in recruiting that matters, not how you start. All they care about-and justifiably so-are the results. And we’re starting to get a glimpse of those results. In the last week, Texas has added two major pieces on the defensive side of the ball - defensive tackle Kasi Currie and edge Jabarrius Garror. Both are blue chips. Now we wait for more blue chips to come off the board. South Oak C…

With their backs against the wall, down 17 points in the final quarter, the Texas Longhorns fought and clawed their way back to tie the game at the end of regulation before winning in overtime 45-38. I use the terms “fought” and “clawed” purposefully because that’s exactly what they did. It wasn’t always pretty, but this team would not give up. They fought every second even after what looked like a nail in the coffin 62-yard touchdown from Mississippi State early in the fourth quarter. Yet rather than folding tent, Texas fought back behind the arm of Arch Manning and a fleet of receivers that had a breakout game for the first time this year. But i…

NOLA Brother Martin WR Easton Royal — Texas commit — Make no mistake, the most important recruit on campus this weekend is Easton Royal. The 5-star wide receiver committed to Texas over Florida and LSU November 29. The day before Jon Sumrall was hired by Florida and Lane Kiffin was hired by LSU. Since that time, Texas has had Royal on campus multiple times while Florida and LSU have done the same. This recruitment was about three schools when he committed, and that's exactly where it's stayed. Now after OV's to LSU and Florida (last weekend), Texas get's the last OV word before Royal very likely announces a decision once again. This decision will be more t…

Some team notes gathered in the last 48 hours. Andrew Mukuba, S - Texas remains very happy with the Clemson transfer. Brought talented veteran experience to the safety room. Expected to be a major piece to the defensive puzzle. Jaylon Guilbeau, N - Strong spring has continued this summer. Continues to back up the praise Steve Sarkisian has given him publicly. Kobe Black, CB - Body has changed quite a bit since the spring. His body composition is/has made strides. He’s slimmed down some. Apparently made the most of his May working with his older brother, Korie. Gavin Holmes, CB - Showing he is hungrier than last year. Getting to front of line …

Saturday night practice was inside DKR. Time for some notes: - It was the annual donor practice, where major donors get a sneak peak at the Longhorns. - Sark spoke beforehand and emphasized that’s there’s 49 new players from last season. - I spoke to multiple sources so this is a mix of them all. - The play of Justus Terry, Melvin Siani, Zina Umeozulu, and Rasheem Biles was the most commented on to me. - Terry caused repeated upfield disruption. - Siani “was looking to bury his guy” on nearly every snap. According to one source, he may be the meanest of the OLs. - Umeozolu as well as Lance Jackson just “look the part”. Both made pla…
