I listened to Mike Elko and Marcel Reed today. And I talked at length with Billy Liucci. On paper, I think the Aggie schedule is conducive to a 9- or 10-win season. It’s about as easy as you’ll find in the SEC. Do the Aggies have the horses to pull it off? They’ll be good enough on defense. Elko did well in the portal and he figures to manufacture QB pressure as well any coach in the conference. I’m buying what the Aggies are selling on defense. The consternation, however, comes on the other side of the ball, where A&M has a green play-caller and a patchwork OL. It feels like Elko almost talked himself into hiring Holmon Wiggins as OC so Wiggins wo…

According to a source, the court is granting the TRO and setting an Injunction hearing. So, Hutson has prevailed in the first part of the process. If Hutson receives an injunction similar to basketball players in Ohio, Hutson would be available to play football for the Longhorns this season. View full news story

LSU Excited to Welcome Texas to Death Valley in November *** For the first time in history, Texas and LSU will face off with one another in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, presumably under the lights in Death Valley. Both teams, and fanbases, will have to wait until November for the meeting to take place, but ultimately, it is hard to find a game on the Longhorns' schedule with higher expectations or noteworthy storylines set to lead the way. LSU linebacker Whit Weeks provided context into what is expected in the Texas-LSU meeting, which doubles as the return of Arch Manning to the state of Louisiana. "That is going to be a fun one for sure," Weeks said o…

Torre Becton's Conditioning Program Continues to Push Competition *** Each and every offseason you hear about a change in the throughout the course of the months waiting for football to occur. A common theme that maybe isn't exactly new, but certainly emphasized more in 2026 is the desire for the competitive spirit to drive workouts in the summer. The Longhorns had a day in the sand pit on the backfields at the Denius practice fields prior to the 4th of July break that was focused solely on competition and team building. That competitive spirit returned earlier in the week with a scavenger hunt during a conditioning workout. There were 12 groups, head…

TAMPA, Fla. — Here's everything Steve Sarkisian said at SEC Media Days on Thursday. Opening statement “First of all, just some thank yous before we get going here. First of all, I'd like to thank Commissioner Sankey. I know his job is not easy, and I know in the midst of college football today and college athletics, there's a lot of change, and there's a lot that goes into his job. I can tell y'all from sitting in rooms with him and a lot of phone calls, he's trying to do what's best for our sport. Not just for the Southeastern Conference. He really is trying to do what's best for our sport. I'd like to thank the leadership at the University of Texas, you know…

Five-star cornerback and Texas commit John Meredith III has reclassified to 2026 and will join the Longhorns this fall, OnTexasFootball has learned. He’s now part of a 26-man high school class the Longhorns signed that ranked No. 7 in the country. It’s remains unknown where Meredith’s ranking will place after the move, but the 6-foot-2, 175-pounder is considered one of the top prospects regardless of class. Meredith joins a corners class that includes Samari Matthews and Hayward Howard Jr.. Five-star receiver Jermaine Bishop Jr. has also taken snaps at cornerback this summer, but is expected to contribute at wide receiver as a freshman. UT also added Bo Mascoe…

TAMPA, Fla. — To nobody’s surprise, Texas A&M quarterback Marcel Reed faced no shortage of Texas-Texas A&M questions during the Aggies’ time at the SEC Media Days podium on Wednesday. The rising redshirt junior is 0-2 against the Longhorns since the rivalry was renewed in 2024, both 10-point losses. “I haven’t watched both two games a lot,” Reed told reporters. “I’ve seen them probably two, three times. We played some situations. I watched it enough to know where my mistakes are and where I can clean it up. There’s a lot of different parts of my film throughout the entire season, not just those past two games, where I kind of saw some kinks I needed to f…

Happy Friday! *** Texas placed second in the media's preseason SEC rankings. About what you would expect for many. But not all. It was funny earlier in the week in Tampa, there was a manufactured attempt to peg the Longhorns as the undisputed team to beat in the conference by media members in attendance. It happened so quickly into the week at Media Days, the ploy was exposed almost immediately outside of the typical Texas detractors. The question to Georgia LB Raylen Wilson added evidence to the ruse. Question by question, tweet by tweet, the idea that Georgia was distantly chasing Texas was being constructed like a pile of Lincoln L…

Saturday Team Notes: Meredith and more OnTexasFootball brings a few team notes at defensive back coming on the heels of the John Meredith III reclass to 2026. John Meredith III ... OTF was told that Meredith III is set to arrive on campus Monday. Texas DC Will Muschamp and corners coach Mark Orphey didn't promise the 6-2, 178-pounder anything in terms of the 2026 season. Meredith was told that if earns time on the field, he will be rewarded. He was also told to come with the mindset of developing and getting up to speed, and if he earns time then that will happen. Meredith III initially had some reservations about reclassifying. He had to warm up …

For this week's OTF Sideline Debate, the staff shares our biggest Texas takeaways from SEC Media Days. Take a look! Bobby Burton Sark’s willingness to admit he has a very talented team tells me he is not shying away from expectations. And as we all know, at Texas unrealistic expectations are the norm. Sark’s not downplaying 2026 in any way, shape or form. Hopefully this group is ready to meet those expectations. Gerry Hamilton My biggest take away from Sark was what I wanted to hear going into the week: that everybody that doesn’t have a season-ending type injury, like Kaden Scherer, has been cleared and is full-go for fall practice. That mean…

Texas Hoops Report: Sean Miller and staff excited about workout returns this summer The Texas Longhorns will take this week off, before getting back to work in August. Through seven weeks of summer on court and S&C workouts, Sean Miller and staff are very pleased with what they have seen. OTF relays some notes from the month of July... A lot of people having been asking about Marcus Spears Jr. thus far. Couple of weeks of workouts completed, he's been very impressive. His athleticism and length is translating daily. He's made a number of defensive plays in transition - blocks, deflections and changing shots. He's also hit the court with an attacking minds…

TAMPA, Fla. — Texas finished the 2025 season at No. 132 in the country in penalty yardage per game. For reference that’s out of 136 eligible teams. It’s a stat Alabama proved can be turned around in just one offseason, as the Crimson Tide made a roughly 100-spot jump from 2024 to 2025, finishing last season at No. 17 in nation. In turn, Alabama made the College Football Playoff. I asked Steve Sarkisian at SEC Media Days what the Longhorns did this offseason to address the issue. “I think one thing that we evolved to, and I believe this, if you want to be a disciplined team on the field you need to be a disciplined team off the field. It starts off the field an…

With SEC Media Days taking center stage, we haven’t given much attention to what’s going on in Washington DC. Yesterday afternoon, Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) said he did not believe the Save College Sports Act would get any time on the senate floor prior to the mid-term elections. Personally, I’m ok with that. The bill was rotten from the start, pushed by a booster with clear intentions and protective and preservation efforts focused on a subset of schools (if not his own school primarily). If people wonder why the bill failed to get to the finish line and ultimately crumbled, it’s because the foundation was so poor and so misaligned fr…

Gerry’s article yesterday reveals that Will Muschamp, Blake Gideon and Mark Orphey are far from settled on the starting lineup in the Texas secondary. Or even the rotational pieces. At SEC Media Days, Sark said the left guard spot was going to be a real competition between Laurence Seymore, Jaydon Chatman, Jordan Coleman or now Cole Hutson. Sark even mentioned Andre Cojoe as a piece of the OL and Cojoe is currently considered a back-up tackle following his knee rehabilitation. So as we look to the start of fall camp, it’s clear there are two position groups everyone needs to be watching: offensive line and the secondary. While we can project a starting line…

We’re 10 days out from Texas football players and coaches getting back on the grass to officially begin the 2026 football season. If you can’t feel the excitement building in my writing, I’ll add a couple of exclamation points. 10 days!!! 2026 is one of the most anticipated seasons in Texas football history. Not only are the Longhorns coming off of three consecutive 10-win seasons, but Texas has the scion of the Manning family at quarterback, the nation’s best defensive player and a roster loaded at nearly every position. Not since 2009 has Texas kicked off a fall camp with this much anticipation. At On Texas Football, we’re ready for it. We hope …

AUSTIN, Texas — The Longhorns open fall camp next week, and in doing so will welcome over half a dozen new faces that didn't take part in spring football on the Forty Acres. Here's the list of summer enrollees set to get their first true taste of Texas football when UT hits the practice fields. High school: John Meredith III, CB, Fort Worth (Texas) North Crowley 6-2, 175 "Turned 18 a couple of weeks ago," Sarkisian said at SEC Media Days. "He provides great length, great speed, tremendous man-to-man ability, very confident, very aggressive. All the attributes you want in a defensive back. It's not a secret why he was a top-2 or 3 player in the…

10 Reasons for Optimism in 2026 *** Back from Tampa with Kool-Aid in hand! With fall camp beginning in the very near future, allow me to do my very best to raise the excitement level. I have done my best thinking over the weekend to compile this list of ten reasons for optimism ahead of the 2026 season. *** 10. Justus Terry Up to 290 Pounds Since the beginning of January, the name on the roster that I have circled for being the biggest X-Factor on the Longhorn roster has been Justus Terry. No interior defensive lineman on the Longhorns' roster has as much ability to rush the passer as Terry, and now he has added more than enough armor to play…

Monday Recruiting Update OnTexasFootball begins your week with a few recruiting updates. Landen Williams-Callis... The record-setting Houston area running back remains scheduled to announce his commitment the afternoon of August 1. Starting the week, OTF hasn't heard anything to move us off the thought that Texas remains the favorite over SMU, Missouri, Texas A&M, Houston and LSU. Offensive line recruiting ... Texas has a very solid five man offensive line class in 2027, but that doesn't mean the Longhorns are for sure done. If there was an upside tackle that emerged as a possibility, Texas would likely have interest. OTF expects Texas to keep in …

Cy Ranch offensive tackle R’Monie Edwards was one of the first prospects in the 2028 class to emerge as a national recruit. Edwards was a walk-in varsity starter at left tackle as a freshman, and picked up his first offer from Ole Miss after the first two games of his high school career. He’s since collected 27 more offers as he’s ascended into a consensus top-60 overall prospect and a top 10 offensive tackle in the nation. While prospects who emerge at an early stage can sometimes take their foot off the gas pedal, that won’t be the case for Edwards who has had a busy offseason playing basketball and pumping iron. “My strength and my footwork but mostly …

They’re horse trading in the senate right now. The Save College Sports Act is attempting to push the total cap to $51.5m for the entire athletic department. Will it get done this week? Or will it die a slow death? ** Simultaneously, Big 10 media days begin this morning. And some news has already broken. Ohio State athletics has signed a jersey patch deal with JP Morgan Chase for $15m annually. Much of that will go to fund NIL for the Buckeyes. ** Two weeks ago, I asked some folks inside the building to name an offensive player that would likely surprise folks in 2026. The answer was Emmett Mosley V. This week, I asked a si…

Sean Miller Media Availability Thread: Summer Update Sean Miller will have a media session to update the team and program today around 11am CT. Jeff Howe and Hank South will be in attendance. The Longhorns will very likely be ranked inside the top 10 in the AP preseason poll. IMO, Texas should be top 8. Texas will start 5 future NBA draft picks this season, and a sixth sure fire NBA draft pick will come off the bench. Jeff Howe and myself interviewed Miller two months ago ... he went player by player on this seasons roster ... but that was before Marcus Spears Jr. joined the fold. If you want to learn about the guys a little prior to Miller's summer updat…
