Iowa State should have been lobbying for collecting bargaining. That would have given them a chance. As it is, the SEC and Big Ten will choke them out. To a certain extent, we’re headed toward a sorting out back to the way things were in the ‘60s, when many of the mid- and low majors now in D-I basketball played in the NAIA. But the football change is what matters.

Most people -- you, me, anyone -- would take that bag and not look back. If he has a Stanford degree and the smarts to go with it, he'll be fine. Back before the NCAA realized how bad it made them look, it released the average SAT scores for each school's signees in football and basketball. Stanford was at the top of the list, ahead of all the schools with academic reputations.
