It definitely does.

And they just brought home the Conference Championship by beating UCLA again.

It does, the NCAA tournament. Not the MPSF conference tournament they just won though. 
 

They should get a really good seed for the ncaa tournament, top 3, and have a great chance for a top 4 or better finish.

Texas got the 2 seed, would meet 3 seed ucla in the semis. I think this is best for Texas as they are 3-2 on the year and have won the last 3 against ucla. 
 

Stanford gets the 1 seed, Texas is 0-3 vs Stanford this year.

UCLA, Florida have chances to add significant points in Tennis this weekend if they can advance. Stanford could too but the gain would be limited as they have sports already expected to score around 60 points. 

Texas needs to see both Tennis teams advance, either not advancing would lead to a significant score drop.

1 seed Stanford, 2 seed Texas, 3 seed UCLA in beach volleyball this weekend as well. Any change better or worse this weekend would adjust predicted score as well.

I have Stanford with a much higher projection (1314.5), so I'm wondering what's amiss.   I have fall/winter subtotal at 917.5 as at thedirectorscup.com, then spring projections of 83 (W WP - final), 100 (BVB), 60 (one of W LAX or M Golf), 100 ( W Golf), 90 (Row), 64 (Softball), and then excluded scores for M/W tennis (50,50),one of W LAX or M Golf (60), and W T&F (50).  Those scores further cause the fall/scores for M WP (55) and M Fencing (45) to be excluded, so that's 917.5-100+497=1314.5, so we're about 60 points apart. which is suspicious.  

btw, #1 UCLA got upset in the qf of men's VB, so they dropped 40 projected points there. I think.

Yep, they drop 10 from the #1 seeding position there, but UT also dropped 7 from the #2 seeding by missing the finals, so close to a wash in terms of projections.   
Big difference between UT's and Stanford's overall position is that UT doesn't have extra scoring sports to cover a big unexpected letdown.  Stanford has solid scores which are currently outside the 20 sport cutoff (5 50+ scores) which would just slide into place in case of an unexpectedly poor performance in some sport.  UT doesn't have that buffer, so all the spring sports really have to perform in order to grab the DC.

Stanford didn’t score any points on required sports men’s and women’s basketball. Unfortunately Texas didn’t score points women’s soccer a required sport.

That’s the major difference is that if Stanford’s required sports all scored anything half decent - they have  massive advantage on the inside track to 1st because of the number of sports they have.

This epitomizes why the director’s cup is flawed. Stanford hasn’t sniffed a decent finish in any major sport yet they’re still hanging around because of obscure sports that count way too much. Just one guy’s opinion. 

The Cup isn’t about who’s good in the big‑ticket sports - it’s about total program depth. Stanford scores well because they’re elite in a ton of sports most schools don’t even sponsor. So, i would say>> That’s the system doing exactly what it was built to reward.

Agree to disagree. Are they truly elite at these sports or are they simply succeeding because of limited competition or interest? That to me is not success, it’s gaming a system to get undue notoriety for having breadth of options not depth of excellence in the sports that are paid the most attention. 

What sports does Stanford have that we don't as it relates to the Director's Cup.

This needs to improve big time! Hopefully,  our new coach, the potential of a new facility (where the bubble is now), can improve this team so we can be a powerhouse!

At least water polo (M/W), fencing (M/W), wrestling (M), gymnastics (M/W), lacrosse (W).  volleyball (M), and soccer (M).   Water polo is certainly a niche sports, as is men's volleyball (only 23 Div 1 programs)..  Men's wrestling has a surprisingly large number of schools which compete.  There are only 12 division 1 men's gymnastics programs.  There are 70 men's D1 lacrosse programs but only 30 women's D1.

Out of these sports, Stanford is projected to use the scores from M SOC (64), W Fencing (60 - might be excluded), M wrestling (73.5), gymnastics (100 & 71.25), and maybe W lacrosse (60).   

I've read that Ohio State has an even larger number of Div 1 sports, but they're not that competitive in DC.

Thanks. We have a club team in women's LaCrosse. We should have women's gymnastics and men's wrestling. CDC, are you listening? 

Next up for me in priority would be an indoor track facility.  Always seemed weird that there wasn't one and seems like it would help for training and recruiting.  T&F is 4 of the included sports. 

Btw, Stanford upset A&M in 2nd round of men's tennis so that is now an unexpected scoring sport for them.  They get #6 TCU in next round.   Let's go Frogs.
