Hartzell* went there to be the President. Hopefully he doesn’t try to recruit CDC but I won’t be surprised if he does given their relationship.

Wouldn't that be a step down?

I understand that Hartzell went due to the overly political nature of the UT-president position and having to kowtow to so many people.  SMU is private, so it's just his Board (no legislature, etc).

 

 

As much as we love The University of Texas as a school, it does not have objective claim as the best college in America. So as the president of UT, you can’t say you’re leading the best college in America.

In contrast, as frequent winner/contender for the Director’s Cup, UT Athletics does have objective claim as the best college athletic department in the country. 
 

So if CDC leaves Texas for SMU, it would be leaving arguably the best athletics department in the country for a department at SMU that doesn’t frequently compete for titles in major sports (if any).

That would be a perplexing move

I’m sure they would have interest. They should.

But I also think another person in the department might be a possibility.

He'll try but CDC ain't going nowhere. Man has the best job in America.

CDC has already done the private school thing. Our budget is more than Rice, TCU and SMU combined. You could probably throw Baylor in that pool too.

SMU has our permission to hire Mack Brown instead.

If it was Fenves CDC would give him the old Tommy H double bird. Hartzell, would be smart to try but I don’t think they have a big enough dept for CDC to really want that job.

Your assumption is not true.   Hartzell left because he got paid tons more to be at SMU.

Agree.   Can’t see any logical reason especially now that UT football has built so much momentum and is set to go on a run the next 5 yrs.   
 

Also, have you been to SMU’s stadium?   Holds 32000.

One school conservative & other Liberal. 

The typical run of a college president, especially at a public U. is 5 years.  This regardless of how well loved one might be.

There are relatively benign institutional factors that underlay this timetable.  You could research this yourself, I am merely reporting the standard result.

It doesn’t make sense to leave a small private school to go to a larger school like Texas which has one of the biggest Athletic departments and relatively unlimited resources. SMU had to buy their way into the ACC.  
 

How big can SMU’s budget be when you factor in the deal they made to get into the ACC vs. traveling cost, facility upgrades, coaches etc. Don’t forget NIL deals and possible revenue sharing deal.  More of a headache.

At Texas you are played well and no shortage of financial means.  Boosters and fans can be a problem at any school so that shouldn’t be any issues.
