Steve Forbes at Wake would be interesting. Wins everywhere he goes, Wake is a "hoops" school but Texas could probably money whip him and give him more resources.

He may not be interested in moving again, but Texas would be hard pressed to hire a better basketball coach for the NCAA Tourney one game scenarios than Altman. His teams present such a multi faceted approach that it makes it very hard to prepare for. When talent is semi-equal, I always think his team has a huge advantage.

I thought about Forbes, but he turns 60 next month, has to take care of his stroke victim wife, and has never won a tournament game.

Count me out on Sean Miller. @Gerry Hamilton and I will just have to agree to disagree on that one. He is one that does not inspire a lot of belief for me that he can succeed in the new era, now that everyone is able to legally do what allowed him to get talent.

And I'm not saying he is option No. 1 or there aren't other quality coaches ... 

But he checks very important boxes for me: 

Strong talent evaluation ... he hit on a lot of guys at Zona. That includes international players (an area Texas needs to be much stronger in the future). It's easy to say, he just signed highly ranked players ... but he did a damn good job of hitting on the highly ranked kids/developing them when others around the sport have struggled. 

Putting a talented team together on the court that actually plays at a high level. 

One of the winningest active coaches in the NCAA Tournament. 4 Elite 8's, 8 Sweet 16's and an overall record of 21-12. 

Plays a pace an style that acceptable/needed. 

Here is what's most important for me ... it was mentioned above:

You give a proven winner that has evaluated players at a high level 3.5-4 mill in NIL ... and he's going bring you a lot of W's. I'm not saying an NC (nobody ever has at Texas), but he would evaluate and build a roster and coach that roster to give you an opportunity in the SEC and in March Madness IMO. 

***And here is a final piece if UT job opens ... Texas isn't going to go pay a CBK coach 7-9 million a year more than likely. So who is the best coach Texas could hire in the 4.5-5 mill range that could maximize a 3.5-4 mill future NIL roster ... Sean Miller should be on that list of guys considered. 

He was going to be the hire last go round, if RT hadn't got the job.

That was at Arizona which is a basketball school. Totally different than a football school. And let’s be honest, there were also other reasons kids went there. Is it legal now? Yeah it is. However, what you said at the end is what I needed to know. Texas is still not interested in putting all the resources necessary to have an elite program. They want to use as little money as possible and somehow get an occasional sweet sixteen every three years. They don’t seem interested in consistently being in the top half of the SEC on a consistent basis. The top of the SEC are all football schools. Alabama, Auburn(Football based but not good at it), and Florida. And what happens when Coach Miller needs that other guy? What happens when they tell him no? What does he do? Does he find some other way to get that guy? Texas sounds like a job where you don’t have to do too much to keep them happy. Honestly if Sean Miller comes, then he will have to get use to a lot less winning than he had at Arizona. Just my message board opinion. This budget business drives me crazy, because that type of bs is not what I want Texas basketball to be at all. I will say it again. It sounds like Tom Penders. Put a product that’s exciting to watch and try to give us a couple of wins in the tournament every now and then. And for the record Penders only got Texas to the sweet sixteen twice. He won that game once, his second year here.

He didn't have his best player in year two there. That kept them from being an NCAA Tournament team IMO

Sean miller is on the wrong side of his career. He nor his teams have performed well at all since the current era of college sports.

If Texas opens, and hires a coach on the level of a Sean Miller ... he will do well in Austin IMO.
