Facilities

Featured Replies

What facility/s can or need to be improved /updated to be more enticing to recruits?  I keep hearing places like Oregon have these great facilities.... where is Texas lacking that may make a difference?

Texas will have a new practice facilities including indoor next to stadium where the School of Social Work is located. Schedule to open in 2026.

Yep. Waiting on the demolition and beginning of construction. The mock ups are tremendous.

How much does this truly impact recruiting?  What facilties do these other programs have that UT doesn't?  Glad to see at least some progress to move ahead.

High schools have a better indoor practice than Texas. The current  practice facility requires players ride a bus The new facilities is next the stadium.

Facilities will always impress 16-18 years kids.

It mattered much more about 5-7 years ago. You saw TCU, Texas A&M, Texas Tech and Texas go all in on locker rooms and amenities inside of the facilities. Now, it is a bit less with NIL taking over the No. 1 priority.

It’s a 1A/1B imo. You can’t get complacent in either aspect.

Oregon campus is just beautiful.  I don't think a school in Texas will ever be able to compete with Oregon on that front.

Yea, but, winter and travel are really going to SUCK!!!!  Wait until reality sets in this year.

Eventually those future road trips to Rutgers and Penn State are going to hit home.

Trips to Florida and lsu are only 2–3 hours away and the atmosphere at the swamp and Death Valley are on a whole other level  compared to Rutgers, Indiana, Maryland, etc.

Well that's great.

Ugh!!!  As an architect, I do not agree.  The building itself has NO historical significance and should not be considered.  What should be considered is a historical site designation recognizing the site as a location for being the location for the first integrated school in Austin.  Again, the structure itself has little value.  That is how historical designations are supposed to function, with significant structures protected (not this building) and significant sites protected (this site).

"The State Antiquities Landmark status is the highest level of historic destination (sic) from the state, according to the Texas Historical Commission.  Properties with the status must have a permit from the Texas Historical Commission before they are removed, altered, damaged, salvaged or excavated.

The commission’s Antiquities Advisory Board recommended in April that the full commission give landmark status to the social work building."

That's the key paragraph. Regardless of whether the highest level of historic designation is granted, it will just require a permit to be demolished and the entire membership of that commission was appointed by the sitting Governor.  They'll incorporate an existing hall or classroom or facade into the design of the practice facility and it will get done. Just a matter of time.
