UT?

Featured Replies

I've since moved to the west coast and I was wondering how do you say where you went to school? Obviously, in Texas everyone would know what you are talking about when you say "UT" but I usually get blank stares now.

  • Texas? I feel like this is the best option but I almost feel like you gotta know ball
  • UT Austin? This sounds like a community college
  • University of Texas? Too long

Establish dominance and say UT!

Lol jokes aside I usually say UT Austin to those outside of Texas. I actually met someone who told me he went to UT only to find out later he was talking about University of Toronto😂

This is what I tell my Aggie friends when they refer to us as TU

It's just Texas imo.

Agree, I say Texas. If those west coasters don’t know that’s on them. We are Texas and damn proud of it!!

I'm also on west coast now and usually go w/ Texas, but sometimes UT as well and they can sort it...
That said because between my car and my wardrobe, etc., there usually isn't much question...

Only people around Tennessee refer to Tennessee as UT. Everyone on the West Coast will know exactly which school you are referring to.

In California the UC schools tend to add the campus (though Berkley is more common than UC Berkley or Cal) so UT Austin doesnt sound out of place.

In the SE I've run into UT meaning Tennessee, but otherwise Texas probably comes to mind first and in my experience people just use the name by default... Michigan, Northwestern, Florida, Georgia, Washington, Arkansas, not the abbreviation, except LSU, USC, and sometimes ASU. And people can guess who A&M is and definitely know its not The University!
