Football season is in full swing and the Texas baseball staff will use it to their advantage. *** Starting with the Texas QB. Texas' social media accounts posted a picture of the Longhorns' quarterback throwing a football in practice this morning. While yes, Arch is throwing more, especially in the routes on air portion of practice, he is not participating in 7-on-7 or the 11-on-11 team settings just yet. It was mentioned to me after practice on Saturday that Manning stands directly behind the quarterbacks in both settings taking mental reps with a view from the pocket. A quick note from Saturday's scrimmage. C Jake Majors was not a participant in the scrimmage this morning due to an ankle sprain. I was told Majors has not been active for much of the week leading up to the scrimmage and the staff opted to keep him sidelined for this morning's action. As a result, it was Hayden Conner who was bumped inside to the center position and Cole Hutson who took over the left guard duties. OTF was told that Meredith III is set to arrive on campus Monday. Texas DC Will Muschamp and corners coach Mark Orphey didn't promise the 6-2, 178-pounder anything in terms of the 2026 season. Meredith was told that if earns time on the field, he will be rewarded. He was also told to come with the mindset of developing and getting up to speed, and if he earns time then that will happen. — OTF continues to hear confidence in the Longhorns eventually winning out for Dallas South Oak Cliff OT Brian Swanson, and that’s coming from sources in Austin and Dallas. Swanson tripped to Oklahoma May 29-31, SMU June 5-7, and will see Texas this weekend. The June 19-21 weekend remains open on the schedule for the State Champion tackle, but it’s likely it ends up getting filled with an OV to LSU. If that trip gets scheduled like expected, it would mark Swanson’s first time in Baton Rouge. If you missed the news yesterday, the NCAA appears set to create new scholarship limits for most major sports. Football is expected to move from 85 to 105 scholarships. Baseball will move up to 34. Men’s basketball looks like it will add two spots. Women’s softball gains 13 new spots and volleyball adds 6. So what does all this mean? This is a fundamental change for several sports in so many ways. Let’s start with football, where there are more questions than answers. After speaking with multiple folks who attended yesterday's scrimmage, there are two themes that have emerged: 1. The Quarterbacks. Texas has not one, not two, but three QBs who have serious NFL potential, with the ability and know-how to move the team down the field. Granted, Ewers is ahead of Manning, and Manning is ahead of Owens. But all three of them are legit QBs, just at slightly different stages of their own development. Anybody that was injured during a play, eventually got up and walked off. - First group of receivers were Isaiah Bond, DeAndre Moore and Johntay Cook. The receiver group rotated heavily. - Quinn Ewers looked extremely sharp. However, receivers did not make many contested catches, even on well-thrown passes. Wanted to share my initial thoughts after meeting and speaking with new Texas basketball coach Sean Miller first in a smaller, semi-private setting and then from sitting front row in the larger auditorium. I think Texas found itself a basketball coach first and foremost. That is not taking a shot at anyone at guys who have come before him. But just from talking to him and the answers he gives, it's clear he's a basketball thinker and talks about how the pieces of the puzzle have to fit together for his program, from both a personnel and style of play perspective.
