Is Jordan Seaton going into the portal or not? The Colorado offensive lineman announced his intentions to do so on Monday. Yet here we are on Thursday morning, and he is - at least as of the time I’m typing this column - still not in the portal, exceeding the two-business-day lag usually seen in these scenarios. If Seaton does not enter, it will be mildly unsurprising. Of course Colorado wants to keep one of the best players in college football. Texas received good news yesterday when Ethan Mendoza made the decision to return to school. Longhorns assistant coach Troy Tulowitzki met with Mendoza and his family yesterday at their home in Bedford and the two parties agreed it would be best for him to finish his final year of college baseball in Austin. Unfortunately for Mendoza, he will require shoulder surgery, which is set to take place this week. As far as a timetable for a return goes, that is currently up in the air. Last season Mendoza went .278 at the plate with 52 runs, 14 doubles, 10 home runs, 50 RBI and 11 stolen bases. -- If Mendoza isn't ready by the time practice rolls around, …

As it stands now, the Texas roster continues to appear in a number of way too early top 25 rankings. But the work is far from done with two guard spots remaining. Six games in, we have now reached the midway point in the season. And some Texas players who have not seen much action (playing in four games or less) are making and/or contemplating decisions about redshirting and then possibly transferring. Yesterday, we heard of one such player who is opting to take the redshirt with the intent of entering the portal in December. He will not play the rest of the season. While we are not going to name the player until he or the team announces it, I can say the player is not a front-line player and really does not have a clear path to the field or to be a large contributor long-term at Texas. The news of Louisville running back Isaac Brown entering the portal is one to watch. While most of the portal attention for Texas fans at running back has centered around the decision of Florida's Jaden Baugh, Brown is someone we've mentioned on multiple broadcasts. He is a big-time home run hitter. He averaged more than 8 yards per carry in 2025, finishing the season with 884 yards on 101 carries. In 2023 as a freshman, he recorded 1175 yards rushing on 165 carries. In 2025 alone, he had five runs of longer than 50 yards. He is a mix between Tre Wisner and Jaydon Blue IMO. Cam Coleman, the no. 1 overall player in the transfer portal, returned to his home state of Alabama yesterday after back-to-back visits to Texas and Texas A&M. As of yesterday evening, Texas continues to have confidence. Coleman will still visit Texas Tech this week, although USC is now out of the picture. Blake Gideon is set to return to Austin as the Longhorns safeties coach in 2026. Gideon was the Longhorns’ safeties coach in 2024 and helped orchestrate a top ten defense with a hand over the backend of the defense. Georgia Tech hired Gideon as their defensive coordinator for the 2025 season, though after one year, Gideon returns to Austin. Some folks have suggested multiple reasons for Texas’ recent swoon in recruiting. Well, I’m here to tell you that there’s really only one reason - NIL. If this were just a year ago, and Texas had more funds to distribute, there’s little doubt in my mind that the Longhorns would hold the no. 1 recruiting class in the country. I wanted to be as informed and measured as I could be in my article this morning, so I waited to write this column until after re-watching the game. ** This will be of no surprise to any of you.
