  1. Started by Bobby Burton,

Texas softball goes for the national championship tomorrow at 7pm against Texas Tech on ESPN. The Longhorns defeated Tennessee 2-0 in the semifinal yesterday behind strong pitching performances from Mac Morgan and Teagan Kavan, a strong defense, and a big swing from Katie Stewart in the fourth inning. Tech held off an Oklahoma team 3-2 last night. The Sooners had tied it up in 7th on a two-out two-run homer before the Red Raiders walked it off later. Tech is led by the $1 million-dollar pitcher NiJaree Canady, a transfer from Stanford who chose the big bucks from Tech mega donor Cody Campbell. Canady is a bona fide superstar. The Horns will have to beat her…

  2. Where Texas targets are visiting this weekend There are at least 30 Texas targets making official visits from coast-to-coast this weekend, not including the 13 headed to Austin. The arch-rival Texas A&M Aggies have three offensive line visitors that are top targets for Texas, along with legacy target Kaydon Finley. There are four top targets that will be on campus in Coral Gables, while Georgia and Alabama host a combined nine targets. OnTexasFootball takes a look at where Texas targets are going to be this weekend: Georgia Bulldogs ... Kendall Guervil, DL, Fort Myers (Fla.) High OnTexasFootball ranking: 4-star++ Vodney Cleveland…

  3. It’s hard to believe that this season has come to an end. It seems like it was just a few weeks ago that Jeff ,CJ and I recorded our first ever episode of Bases Loaded and that we were all curious as to what the season would bring. “Hosting a regional” is what I said when we discussed the topic of what would be considered a successful season. “Going .500 in conference play” was Jeff’s answer just a few weeks later when I asked what would be considered a success for Texas’ first year in the SEC. Texas exceeded those .500 expectations, dropping only two series toward the end of the season. They won the conference title in the toughest baseball conference in t…

  4. With the season coming to a close, it’s time for Jim Schlossnagle and his staff to move on and look to the future. Now it’s all about building on this past season and improving for the future. The NCAA baseball portal window officially opened on June 1st and it will run through July 2nd. As of Monday afternoon, I am expecting the Horns to lose at least four players to the portal. One of those has already been announced in outfielder Matt Scott. It is worth nothing that Scott was not on the postseason roster. The other three names will be along those lines as well. Not difference makers at this point in time. Now that’s not to say more will not enter, b…

  5. 4-star QB to throw for Texas Thursday at Elite Camp Steve Sarkisian and A.J. Milwee will watch one of the top 2027 quarterback prospects throw in person Thursday at Elite Camp. Palestine (Texas) Westwood two-sport star Kavian Bryant is scheduled to compete for a Texas offer later this week. OnTexasFootball spoke with a source very close to the 6-foot-2.5, 185-pounder this morning, and Bryant turned down the same invite to LSU to throw in person at Texas. The source said a Texas offer is No. 1 on Bryant's list of wants in recruiting right now. Bryant's most recent football offer was the Florida Gators May 21. His football offer list includes Texas A&a…

  6. Texas kicked off summer conditioning this morning, the start of the next phase of the offseason in Austin, Texas. For those wondering, S Jonah Williams will be eased into workouts over the next week as the baseball season concluded, there is a plan to give him some time to catch his breath before being thrust right back into preparation for the 2026 football season. One nugget for next spring I can share is the plan is for Williams to lift with the football teams multiple times each week despite being in the middle of the baseball season. But of course, that is basically eight months away at this point. When Williams does arrive for summer workouts, that will me…

  7. Started by Bobby Burton,

The Texas baseball team took it on the chin this weekend. And perhaps deservedly so. The Horns played sloppy ball in both games against UTSA and the problems came home to roost. The lack of timely hitting, free bases awarded by the pitching staff and some spotty play in the field all combined to send the Horns home earlier than expected. But overall it was a good year. The Horns won the regular season championship and most importantly Jim Schlossnagle reestablished Texas as a true contender in college baseball. Recruiting is going extremely well and baseball looks like it’s in good hands for the long haul. ** The Texas football staff made 21 offer…

  15. Started by Bobby Burton,

SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey said the quiet part out loud yesterday afternoon. The SEC and the general quality of its teams, thereby the strengths of its schedules, are different than every other conference. He even provided media a 7-page document explaining exactly why. Only two of the conferences 16 schools have averaged being outside of the top 50 teams in college football over the past 10 years. Meanwhile, every other conference has at least twice as many, if not three times as many. What’s the net of all of it? While the Big 10 is trying to force the SEC into a 9-game conference schedule, I just don’t think it’s in the cards. The coaches simply don’t …

  17. Best Class Scenario: May 29 edition The first big weekend of official visits around the country is almost here. That means there will be a surprise commitment or three in the next days, and some recruitments that begin to shift. In the case of the Longhorns, the pivotal month in the 2026 cycle begins June 6-8 with the first of three big weekends in a row. Texas currently sports eight commitments with a class that is on track to be a fifth straight top 5 level finish. OTF newest best class scenario includes 33 prospects, with the understanding that a mix of these 33 would very likely place Texas in the top 3 classes when all is said and done. QB (1)…

  18. Started by Bobby Burton,

Most of the national college football news made yesterday did not originate from the SEC meetings. Rather, it came from reactions to the SEC meetings by the brass at the Big 12 and Big 10. The Big 12 announced it is in favor of a 5-11 CFP format. That means just five conference champions would receive automatic bids to a 16-team college football playoff. The Big 10, meanwhile, said they were not in favor of the 5-11 format unless the SEC adds a ninth conference game. What was SEC commissioner Greg Sankey’s response to all the hubbub? Essentially, he said we don’t tell other conferences what to do, so why should any one presume they can tell us. An…

  19. Thursday Recruiting Notes The Texas staff will be back in the office today and tomorrow as they get ready for a hectic month of June. OTF delivers some recruiting notes to begin the day. Xavier Griffin ... There are clearly two programs that have confidence in the recruitment of 5-star LB Xavier Griffin (Gainesville, Ga./High). That is Texas and Alabama. OTF spoke with a source close to the recruitment Wednesday night, and the source believes Texas remains in a very good spot headed into June OV's. Texas had a tremendous April UOV, and in-home visit in May. OTF does believe Texas leads headed into OV's. But as we will continue to say, the majority of rec…

  20. Texas AD Chris Del Conte met briefly with a small group of reporters here in the lobby of the Hilton Sandestin. Some notes: - Wants one football portal in January. Says that other sports could easily have a different portal window. For example, basketball needs to come in the spring after the season. - "I'm all in on more home games" as it relates to college football expansion. Cited his first-hand experience with the Clemson game last season as well as travel fatigue of fans after having to go to Atlanta twice and Dallas once more during the holiday season. - Feels like "strength of schedule metrics" need to play a greater role in college football pla…

  22. It’s a topic that, in some way, shape or form, comes up every summer to pass the time between the end of spring practice and the start of preseason camp. Which legendary Longhorn, when added to the current roster, would best help Texas maximize the upcoming season? In any season, the easy answer would be to pick one of the six Longhorns who’ve had their jersey number retired by the school and call it a day. I didn’t do that when making a pick to improve Steve Sarkisian’s club in 2025. Still, an assist is rightfully credited to College Football Classics (@ClassicsCFB) on X, formerly known as Twitter, for recognizing what Cedric Benson did in a 44-14 win over Bayl…

  24. Destin, Fla. — Greg Sankey didn’t ask for the weight of the college football world to be on his back. Yet here he is, front and center. The commissioner of the Southeastern Conference is trying to simultaneously manage 16 schools, a group that includes different visions about everything from collective bargaining to the future of college athletics, all with different wants and needs. And he’s also put into the position of peacemaker for his group of schools with all of the other conferences who have different wants and needs themselves. The ACC, Big 12 and Big Ten all want the financial windfall of a college football playoff as much as the SEC. But somehow,…

  25. Texas reporters had two opportunities to speak with Texas coach Steve Sarkisian. The first came in a semi-private meeting and the second in the larger auditorium with all SEC media. Some notes: - Derek Williams is staying at safety. There's no move to star in the works. "He's a safety," Sark said. - Sark declined to say if Guilbeau would stick at corner or move back to nickel full time. "The game's not tomorrow, so I don't have to make those decisions today." - Sark said that linebacker was probably the position he was most pleasantly surprised with this spring. "The variety" of the group stood out. He felt like they might have been a little light at t…
