Former West Virginia head coach Neal Brown is expected to join the Texas staff in an analyst role. Brown was the head coach for the Mountaineers for six seasons and for Troy the four years prior to that. He also experience coaching in the state of Texas as the former offensive coordinator for Texas Tech. Breaking Down Nuggets from Saturday's Practice Practice No. 9 is in the books for the Longhorns. There was a live portion of practice which featured multiple live possessions for the first, second and third teams. Texas 2025 football roster breakdown: By state The Texas Longhorns 2025 roster is very near completion, if not completed. There remains the possibility of adding another player or two out of the portal in the coming weeks. With the spring portal window closed, I thought it would be a good time to look at where the players come from on the roster by state where they graduated high school. Most of the national college football news made yesterday did not originate from the SEC meetings. Rather, it came from reactions to the SEC meetings by the brass at the Big 12 and Big 10. The Big 12 announced it is in favor of a 5-11 CFP format. That means just five conference champions would receive automatic bids to a 16-team college football playoff. The Big 10, meanwhile, said they were not in favor of the 5-11 format unless the SEC adds a ninth conference game. What was SEC commissioner Greg Sankey’s response to all the hubbub? Texas Offers 2027 Palestine Westwood QB Kavian Bryant Texas hosted 2027 and 2028 prospects for one of their midweek camps on Thursday afternoon. Arch Manning is expected to start, according to published reports. Just a week after suffering a concussion in overtime against Mississippi State, the redshirt sophomore quarterback was removed entirely from the SEC injury report last night. Only safety Michael Taaffe remains on the list and is termed “doubtful”. While Manning’s return is welcome news, it also brings up a couple of questions about his play in this contest: 1. Sarkisian Hitched His Wagon 11 Personnel, But Will He Keep Pulling Moving Forward? Texas is coming off of their best offensive performance of the season against Vanderbilt. The Longhorns scored on six of their first seven possessions against a Vanderbilt defense that was top 20 in sacks, tackles for loss and in run defense. But it didn't matter on Saturday. BOOOOOOM! Early this morning, Ohio State defensive tackle Hero Kanu announced he would be transferring to Texas. Kanu, a 6-foot-5, 305-pound redshirt sophomore, is a key addition to the Longhorns for 2025. Kanu recorded four tackles in 100+ snaps in 2024 for the Buckeyes. While he is unlikely to start in Austin, he should be a integral piece of the DL rotation and provide much-needed depth. There was a lot of coaching news over the weekend. Let’s start with Tashard Choice, the Texas RB coach who was the object of Jerry Jones and the Cowboys’ attention. Clarence Hill, who is a friend who has covered the Cowboys for decades, reports that Choice is unlikely to take the Cowboys job because of significant differences in pay between the Cowboys and Longhorns.
