Israel “Izzy” Hammons has kept a lower profile as a recruit and hasn’t been talked about enough as a Texas linebacker target. At 6-foot-3, 230 pounds, Hammons plays his high school ball north of the Red River at Choctaw High School in the East OKC metro area. One of the better programs in the Sooner State, Choctaw has played in the OSSAA 6A State Championship in back to back seasons and took home the state title during Hammons’ sophomore season in 2024. Hammons sees snaps on all three phases and has experience playing at linebacker, EDGE, and F-back and he’s on Choctaw’s kick return, punt block, and field goal block units. If Anthony Hill Jr plays on Friday, it’s because he desperately wants to beat Texas A&M. Hill was listed as QUESTIONABLE once again, I am hearing he is not a true 50/50 to play. Hill remains pretty banged up, and it would not come as a surprise if he was a game-time scratch. Texas is going to heavily rely on Liona Lefau and Trey Moore until Ty’Anthony Smith returns in the 3rd quarter. We will see come Friday evening, but I’m not entirely optimistic currently. It was noted loosely the last day or so, but wanted to make it a full post. I have it on good authority WR Emmett Mosley V is back on the practice field for the Longhorns. Mosley is expected to be a participant in all routes on air and a limited participant in 1v1’s and team drills. Arch Manning will get the final week of spring ball to throw to Mosley, Ryan Wingo and Cam Coleman on the same offense. Great sign for Mosley who was not expected to participate much in spring about a month ago. View full news story

A topic of conversation this week leading up to the Texas-Texas A&M game is the health of quarterback Quinn Ewers and his ankle. First and foremost, Ewers has practiced each day this week and to his credit, has increased intensity each day as the week has progressed. Still, there is a bit of a hobble to his movements due to the ankle. Based off of everything I have heard this week, all signs point to Ewers starting this game for the Longhorns. Ewers has done everything necessary to get ready physically. However, and I have heard this too often to ignore, it should come as no surprise to see Arch Manning at some point in this ballgame. A source tells me the freshman offensive tackle left the facility following the scrimmage on his own accord. Brooks was unable to finish the scrimmage Saturday morning. For what it is worth, I was told Brooks “looked fine” leaving the facility. No brace, no crutches, no boot. View full news story

OTF is expecting to see a name of a Texas starter mentioned on the SEC Availability Report Wednesday evening. This starter is not CJ Baxter and this would be the first mention on the availability report this season. The status of the player is unknown just yet. April 15 marks the first day of the next NCAA portal window opening which is only a handful of sleeps away. Bobby Burton posted a great update this morning on Texas' approach to the defensive tackle position with a possible target in a former TXHSFB player from the DFW area. While there has been a split in opinion on the board, comment section and even social media regarding if Texas should even pursue this prospect, I believe the answer is much simpler behind the walls of Moncrief. Where Each Starter Must Improve in 2026 *** Texas a ton of talent heading into the 2026 season on offense. I think that much is undeniable even to the biggest Texas-hater. But talent alone won't win games at a consistent level in the SEC. Add in Ohio State to the schedule and the gap between Texas' offensive talent vs. some of the defenses the Longhorns will face this year will all come down to execution. Texas completed its first week of training camp on Saturday. The Longhorns were on the field exactly four weeks ahead of the season opener against Ohio State before coach Steve Sarkisian gave the team a day off on Sunday. Combining what I saw during the portions of practice open to the media Wednesday and Thursday with what the OTF staff has heard and reported on from closed sessions Friday and Saturday, there’s one thing on my mind at every position group on the roster. One of the nation's best visiting in early April According to a source on the West Coast, 4-star++ safety Jett Washington (Las Vegas, Nv./Bishop Gorman) is scheduled to make his first unofficial visit to Texas in early April. The 6-foot-5, 200-pound football and basketball standout will be playing in a 7v7 tournament in Dallas April 4-6, and is scheduled to make his way to Austin to visit Texas unofficially after the conclusion of the tournament.
