Well, yesterday was anything but. ** First, Oklahoma announced its Heisman front-running quarterback, John Mateer, would have surgery later today in Los Angeles for a problem with his throwing hand. The surgery is expected to sideline Mateer for at least a month. For those calculating such things, that length of time is just enough for Mateer to miss the Red River Rivalry with the Longhorns. Quick update on Texas WR Parker Livingstone — Reports are surfacing that Texas is expected to have Livingstone available this weekend vs. Oklahoma. That is the plan for now. Livinngstone, and Texas, dodged a pretty significant injury on Saturday following a hit to the leg after a pretty remarkable reception. X-rays came back clean, and nothing structural is believed to be affected following the hit. Texas hoops: Scrimmage vs. SMU Sean Miller's first season at Texas begins in 20 days in Charlotte, N.C. vs. the Duke Blue Devils. Texas wide receiver Ryan Wingo underwent LASIK surgery on his right eye last week and also underwent another procedure designed to help a scratch in his left eye. It's believed that the sight issue became evident in practice midway through his freshman season. The sophomore-to-be expects a full recovery and he should have 20-15 vision in his right eye moving forward. It's thought that the procedure should help him with 50-50 balls this season. A Sunday surprise! The Texas Longhorns have added its sixth transfer portal addition of the spring at a position maybe no one was expecting – quarterback. Former Troy QB Matthew Caldwell will join the Texas quarterback room in 2025. Caldwell started six games for Troy in 2024, throwing for 1,608 yards and 13 touchdowns. Construction for the new $70M indoor football facility has been in the works for about eight months now. No longer will the Texas Football team bus to Denius for practice at the bubble with both indoor and outdoor practice fields coming right across the street from the Longhorns locker room at Moncrief in 2026. Texas softball goes for the national championship tomorrow at 7pm against Texas Tech on ESPN. The Longhorns defeated Tennessee 2-0 in the semifinal yesterday behind strong pitching performances from Mac Morgan and Teagan Kavan, a strong defense, and a big swing from Katie Stewart in the fourth inning. Tech held off an Oklahoma team 3-2 last night. The Sooners had tied it up in 7th on a two-out two-run homer before the Red Raiders walked it off later. I reported prior to kickoff that co-offensive coordinator and QB coach AJ Milwee moved from the sidelines to the coach's box for the first time this season.
