What Has Worked for Texas on Scoring Drives in 2025? I frequently take trips down statistical rabbit holes during the offseason. It is a safe haven for me. To be lost in search of random trends and statistical anomalies that tell parts of a story that previously had holes in the conclusion. Rarely do I take these trips in the middle of the season. And for good reason. Often times, these rabbit holes take a long time to sift and rummage through. Bang! Texas lands a commitment from 2026 Hough (N.C.) CB Samari Matthews! A big win on the trail for the Longhorns as they come out on top of South Carolina and Miami for the 6-foot+ cornerback. Some encouraging health news: I’m told Stanford transfer wide receiver Emmett Mosley V is “expected” back prior to conference play. No further info or timeline was provided, so it could be even sooner than that. The Texas receiver room, while talented, is relatively thin. Yesterday, the NCAA Rules Oversight Committee voted to endorse a new transfer portal timeline, one that starts Jan. 2 of 2026 and lasts 10 days. The new timeline would restrict transfers to a single window of time instead of having two different ones as is the case currently (one window after the regular season in December and then another after spring ball in April/May). That endorsement of the Oversight Committee carries a lot of weight, but it is not final. The Rules Administration Committee must act before Oct. 1 of this year for it to become the transfer portal rule in January of 2026. Texas vs. Duke: Injury notes ahead of Tuesday's season opener The Texas Longhorns played preseason scrimmages against SMU and TCU without big men Matas Vokietaitas and Lassina Traore. Vokietaitas has been nursing an ankle sprain suffered early in fall practice. In the case of Traore, he has been working back to full strength following missing last season with an ACL injury.
