Stanford edge prospect David Bailey began his visit to Texas yesterday. That visit concludes later today. Bailey already visited Texas Tech earlier this week. Among a host of other suitors, UCLA may also get an official visit. As we’ve mentioned previously, Texas views Bailey as an elite player. After all, he was the best player on the Stanford team in 2024. He recorded seven sacks even though opposing teams knew he was really the Cardinal’s only defensive threat much of the season. A unanimous vote has passed the long-awaited age based eligiblity model for the future of collegiate athletics. Student athletes will now have five years of eligibility, with redshirts and extensions now obsolete. - Five years of eligibility, no redshirts or extensions The clock for eligibility begins at 19 years old or college enrollment, whichever comes earlier. Texas hosted approximately 100 high school underclassmen at their Elite Camp yesterday. About 20 of them walked away with a scholarship offer. We’ve compiled a complete list that we’ll be publishing in an hour or so for those interested. A couple of nuggets I wanted to share as the team exits from the practice field on Thursday ahead of Kentucky coming to town for a 2:30 p.m. kickoff on Saturday. *** Steve Sarkisian spoke with media Thursday morning to which he dropped that Tuesday and Wednesday's practices were "feisty" and physical. Physical is a typical description used from head football coaches, but feisty is not. Here is what I know about this Texas football team: 1. The defense is as good as I have seen from any Texas football team in my life. 2. Quinn Ewers is a guy you can win with, but not because of. 3. I listened to Mike Elko and Marcel Reed today. And I talked at length with Billy Liucci. On paper, I think the Aggie schedule is conducive to a 9- or 10-win season. It’s about as easy as you’ll find in the SEC. Do the Aggies have the horses to pull it off? They’ll be good enough on defense. I mentioned earlier that safety Derrick Williams is still not “fully” back although he has been practicing some. One player who has been full-go this week is receiver Ryan Wingo. Wingo was held out for a lot of spring on a precautionary basis. His hamstring tightened and Texas just didn’t want to risk it, preferring to give it full time to resolve.
