In what has become a theme in this recruiting class, Texas finished second on two very talented players yesterday. Close but no cigar. Sure, it’s disappointing. Any recruiting loss is. But some folks need to take a deep breath and step away from the ledge. After all, Texas already has 17 commitments, is ranked in a higher spot currently to where it was at this time last year, and there is the fact that Steve Sarkisian and his staff have proven themselves capable time and again of bringing in elite prospects before the final recruiting curtain closes. All any recruiting loss really does at this time of year is up the stakes for Texas on the remaining prospec…

There has still been no resolution between Texas and at least one of its current players. Our understanding is that the player has filled out the paperwork to go into the portal, but has not been populated into the portal yet. Texas apparently has until Wednesday to do so, which is two business days from Friday (Monday is MLK day, so it is not considered a business day). ** Texas is still open to players who enter the portal officially next week. There are a couple of defensive players of note: Missouri's Damon Wilson and Ole Miss' Princewill Umanmeilen, both of whom specialize in rushing the passer. Umanmeilen is still discussing a return to Ole Miss,…

Fellas, I hope you all appreciate how much better the OTF website is nowadays than what it was just a few short months ago. While Gerry, CJ, Jeff, Blake and myself tried to give you as much info and interaction as we could, there is no doubt in my mind that the additions of Hank and Jordan are taking us to another level here—not only in information, but also interaction on the message boards with you. I’m very thankful they decided to join us. And I’m also thankful that so many of y’all have either stuck with us this entire time as OG’s or joined us more recently. I truly believe we’re building something special at OTF for all true Longhorn fans. …

Add five more stars! 2026 Chaminade Madonna (Fla.) RB Derrek Cooper has committed to the Texas Longhorns! A massive commitment from the Sunshine State gives the Longhorns its running back for the 2026 class. In a massive swing for the cycle, Texas lands one of the top running backs in the country over the likes of Miami, Georgia, Florida State and Florida. What a roller coaster it has been for the Longhorns at the running back position in the 2026 cycle. But all's well that ends well and right now, I don't think you will be hearing any gripes after the commitment of Cooper. The Longhorns land Cooper without receiving an official visit, securing a massive co…

Recruiting has always been an interesting topic to me. It could be getting more interesting these days, not less. The advent of an effective salary cap could - if everyone plays by the same rules - make recruiting more strategic and nuanced than ever before. Previously, it was the same goal for every team: Load up as much as you can every year, fill your needs, and move on to the next cycle. Now, it is much more of a multi-year look. If you sign a high-priced wide receiver or two in year one, it may be difficult to justify doing so the next. Or if you have a big-time player coming off the books and graduating to the NFL at a certain position, it a…

These notes are from Gerry, who is on the road today, and myself. * Melbourne, Fla., defensive tackle Brandon Brown, who committed to Texas many months ago, is expected to make a final decision this week, according to those in his inner circle. While still involved in the race, Texas is unlikely to be the pick. LSU, and former Texas assistant coach Bo Davis, have been chipping away at this recruitment for a long time. Oklahoma has also entered the picture of late. * Nathan Tilmon, defensive back from Mansfield Timberview, is expected to announce a decision some time this week. Tilmon originally committed to SMU before backing out of that pledge a couple of weeks…

Another one! The Longhorns stay red hot out of the portal with the addition of former Syracuse DL Maraad Watson! The fifth (!) defensive lineman addition since the conclusion of the 2024 season is perhaps the most talented. Watson was a Freshman All-American last season for the Orange, where he recorded 493 snaps. Watson spent more of his time as a 3-tech for Syracuse, weighed in at 315 pounds and figures to be a guy that will rotate in with Alex January on the Texas defensive line this upcoming fall. When we discussed the need for a big fish on the defensive line, Texas has since added two with Lavon Johnson out of Maryland and now Watson from ‘Cuse. …

One thing I am told the coaching staff was pleased with in game one was the physicality of the team as a whole. Were there situations that were lacking? Absolutely. But overall, Texas matched Ohio State’s physicality. There is no rest, however. Texas went hard at practice yesterday even though they’re prepping for a San Jose State team that throws the ball 40-to-50 times a game. Over these next three games, Texas can not afford to lose the physicality they displayed against the Buckeyes. l It is something the staff is guarding against. They know they need to retain that edge when they enter SEC play. ** Texas played 23 defensive pla…

- Running back Hollywood Smothers, Yale OL Mikey Bennett and Pitt LB Rasheem Biles were the only official visitors this weekend - Oklahoma State defensive end Wendell Gregory, who was named the Big 12 Defensive Freshman of the Year in 2025, is thought to be nearing a decision. Texas, Texas Tech and Wisconsin are all involved and he has visited all three schools. Gregory, who will be a redshirt sophomore, signed with South Carolina before transferring to the Cowboys, where he totaled four sacks, this past year. - With the pledges of running backs Raleek Brown and Hollywood Smothers, Christian Clark is expected to officially enter his name into the transfer p…

Texas hoops: Horns roster, transfer possibilities and recruits to know The NCAA transfer portal is officially open with April 22 the closing date. Sean Miller has yet to be introduced at Texas, but that doesn't mean there won't be plenty of initial decisions made on the Texas roster, potential Xavier players that could follow and high school recruiting. OTF takes a look at the possibilities, with the understanding that players in the portal is WAY too early to begin speculating on. Texas roster and Sean Miller ... Chendall Weaver, G, junior Weaver missed the vast majority of SEC regular season play, playing only ten minutes or more in the opener at T…

Following the article published in The Athletic this morning stating that Texas coach Steve Sarkisian is looking for a job in the NFL, I received the following comment: "Zero truth to that," an internal source said of the report. Another internal source said Sark's agent could be pushing a narrative for multiple reasons, including those of other coaches and teams who already have a vacancy. While no one should be naive enough to believe that something like this could not occur at Texas or anywhere else, I think the timing of the news is extremely curious. It comes the morning of a must-win away game. It comes the week after a coach's worst offensive pe…

Two 4-star DL's committed elsewhere in Austin The Texas Longhorns are hosting a pair of 4-star defensive lineman committed to other power programs today. Steve Sarkisian and Kenny Baker are continuing to go after top targets on the defensive line, and now a new target has emerged. OnTexasFootball has the scoop here: Antonio Coleman, DL, Saraland (Ala.) High When Bo Davis was at Texas, the Longhorns attempted to pursue the 4-star teammate of quarterback commitment K.J. Lacey. During that time, the 6-2 and 275 pound athletic disruptor, committed to Alabama, flipped to Auburn and then flipped back to Alabama. Now the Texas Longhorns are engaged in …
