Depth at EDGE Starting to Show Walking into Dallas on Saturday, the Texas edge room and defense as a whole had a combined zero sacks against the two Power Four teams Texas had lined up opposite of so far in 2025. That changed pretty quickly against Oklahoma on Saturday in the Cotton Bowl. Texas hosted 2025 Ruston (LA) cornerback Aidan Anding over the weekend for an unofficial visit. After receiving an offer from the Texas staff on March 28, Anding and his family loaded up the car and made the seven hour trip to Austin to watch the scrimmage live and in-person. "I enjoyed it," Anding said following his visit. "It was nice out there. They had a good practice with the coaches out there." Anding mentioned the physicality of the practice as something that stood out to him while in attendance. The portal officially opened at 12:01 am this morning. That means the Horns can now be openly aggressive in acquiring new talent. It also means the Horns are preparing to lose several players. With the news yesterday that Payton Kirkland and Billy Walton would enter the portal, added to S'Maje Burrell's announcement last week, that makes three Longhorns currently headed to the portal. As many of you know, Xavier Worthy had the drops in the latter half 2022. Well, I was the first media person to tell folks after the season that he had a broken hand during that time frame. Texas visits Sunshine State WR committed to Oregon Per a source at Tampa Tech High, Texas assistant coach Jeff Banks was by the Southwest Florida school for multiple hours to watch Oregon 5-star wide receiver commit Dallas Wilson. Wilson, 6-3 and 180, committed to Oregon January 17 over Miami and Florida. He has official visits scheduled to Miami June 7-9, Florida June 14-16 and Oregon June 21-23. 2025 Alamo Heights ATH Michael Terry III has returned back to San Antonio following his official visit to Texas over the weekend. The question coming into the weekend was in regards to where he would fit on the field at the next level – with the idea of playing defense being floated as well. Terry would prefer playing offense, but the conversation is fluid at the moment with the Longhorns. There was a conversation about playing on the defensive side of the ball during the official visit this weekend. I feel like I'm starting to be a Trey Moore truther. The UTSA transfer has been one of the early standouts in camp. Yesterday, I asked Steve Sarkisian what makes Moore different than perhaps his other edge rushers. "He's twitchy," Sark said. "He has the unique ability to bend. He has an up and under move, a double move, he knows how to switch things up." Sark then described why Moore may be a little special. Sark said Moore knows how to set guys up, how one move earlier in a practice might give him an edge for a different move later in practice. That gamesmanship is part of why Moore will almost assuredly help improve the Texas pass rush in 2024. ** …

Texas 2023 class: It's a hit The Texas Longhorns signed the No. 3 ranked class in the 2023 cycle headlined by Arch Manning and a trio of five-star prospects. Now entering season two in the program, the class is looking like it will deliver in a big way for Steve Sarkisian and staff. There could be as many as 12 members of the 25 man class that are in the two-deep when the first ball is kicked vs. Colorado State August 31. That includes as many as five starting. The season opener took place at DKR in front of 99,171 spectators where the Longhorns put on an absolute clinic defensively and the offense found a scorching hot rhythm as the game progressed. ---- Pregame – It is much cooler than I expected about a week ago. Yesterday, I spoke with the radio play-by-play Voice of the Michigan Wolverines, Doug Karsch, for an interview that we will post on OTF later today. Karsch had a lot of interesting things to say overall, but one was a real eye opener. He compared the Michigan defensive front to the old Miami defensive fronts of the 90s. And when he said front, he didn't just mean the DLs but also the LBs. He said the Wolverines keep turning out elite player after elite player.
