That's nonsense. Even the NFL has caps, rules, and boundaries. The problem is that you are equating pay-for-play with NIL. No player has a right to demand pay from a University, but they can earn as much as they want off of their NIL. The only reason the Universities are playing this game right now is they have to because there are no rules. If they want to compete and stay relevant, then they have to keep playing the game. However, they all want rules and boundaries, with a stop on the bidding for players. Sark has commented on this, and so did Saban during the White House round table. Since College Football is a nation wide sport and athletes are transferring at will to chase $$$, then Federal Regulations are needed to set the structures, definitions and boundaries of this new era of college sports. Most likely they will adopt an NFL model with collective bargaining, antitrust exemptions, and a commissioner. This bill will fail because it is not addressing any of these issues. The B1G and SEC will never agree to participate in this old NCAA model.

Senator Cruz was on X lamenting the pushback he's getting on this bill. He said he's trying to save college football. I replied to him and told him the bill needs to be fixed. I told him to drop trying to control conferences and TV revenue and concentrate on defining and regulating the NIL, pay-for-play (which is not authorized anywhere), and portal free agency.

0 Houston had arguably the worst OL in the NFL. I think CJ is a lot better than he is being given credit for. What he's not is a creative off-schedule type QB, like Josh Allen, Caleb Williams, or Patrick Mahomes. I think he could be because he can run and throws well on the run, he just prefers not to do it, or has been told not to do it

The NCAA, or a new organization, can legally cap pay-for-play since that wording is not in any piece of NIL legislation anywhere. In fact, in most NIL legislation, pay-for-play is forbidden. What you cannot cap is the NIL. However, you can legally take the schools out of offering and paying players with conference and national association rules. Players have a right through their agents to sell their NIL for any amount they want, but that's between them and the markets, not the schools. The schools and conferences should be able to form their own organization and set their own portal rules and base-level cost-of-living requirements for each player who cannot earn NIL dollars. If this nonsense continues as is, then the Universities should tell the NFL to form G Leagues and draft all these players straight out of high school for those teams. It's hypocritical to call this a university sport and these players student athletes.

It's hard to be physical playing in a zone-blocking scheme where you never put your hand on the ground and fire off the snap with your pads low. My biggest gripe is how bad they look in double and triple teams. They would execute the first part ok, but then let delayed blitzers and looping DLs run right by them to make a sack or tackle. Flood's OLs have been bad about that since he got to UT in 2021. If I were Sark, that would be enough for me to make a switch, but he seems to love Flood and protects him.

Yes, we are definitely looking at things differently. Our defense was rated nationally much higher in every measurable category than our offense. Those stats don't lie. I'm looking at the entire season as a whole, not individual in-game failures. Yes, the defense had some busts from time to time in coverage and running lanes that were frustrating, but overall those were minimal compared to the offense. Most would argue that in this age of no targeting and constant PIs with high-powered up-tempo RPO offenses, a solid bend-and-not-break defense like PK's is not a bad thing to have. It keeps your offense in the game, but your offense has to contribute and keep scoring and eating the clock. Sark's didn't do that last year for most of the season. I thought the UM game was the first time the offense truly complemented the defense all year. I think Sark was looking at a season where they were number one and missed the playoffs. When he analyzed things, he decided some change was necessary. Since he knew he was the offense and wasn't going anywhere, the only change that could be made was defensively. And, having come from Bama with Saban's style of defense on his mind, and having played Kirby and UGA many times and experiencing the aggressive Kirby-ball firsthand, I think he just decided to try something new. He probably reached out to Muschamp and found he was interested, and then it became an easy decision. I don't think we will see overall a whole lot better defense this year than we saw last year, but I think we will be better as a team because our offense will be a little more consistent in maintaining drives and scoring TDs in the red zone. Sark wants complementary football. I hope the offense does its part and he finally gets it.

I just got through watching the entire season on ESPNU, and looking back on the entire season, our defense was by far the best and most consistent part of our team. Sark always liked complementary football, so how much did the turnovers and all the quick punts hurt the defense? Against Vandy and Miss State, Taffe was out, and in the first quarter of the Vandy game, Jalani McDonald dislocated his thumb and was out the rest of the game. We were playing with backups at safety, and Gillbeaux at corner was a liability as well. Those were not the DC's fault. Just bad luck and what he had left to work with.

Why do you think Sark made a change at DC? Maybe Sark gave a specific answer and I just missed it If it was just frustration and just a feeling that he could do better than the bend be and not break defense of Coach K, after watching the replays of last season, especially the last quarter of the Vanderbilt game, I can see why. However, there is an argument his inconsistent offense was a lot of the problem with these right games and the 3 losses. Why do you think he ignored that side of the ball except for the turnover of personnel?

In less than a year, he went from being able to do everything physically to not being able to talk or lift his arms. That's a pretty rapid advancement of that horrible disease. I can't imagine what it's like to be given a death sentence that early in life. Based on my own faith and the peace that I have, I pray that he has a close relationship with Jesus and that he is at peace in his heart with the certainty of that final journey.

I know nothing about soccer, but that frontline for the US looks pretty fast, and that Dest guy had the best feet I've seen on a US team ever. But again, I know nothing so I might sound like an idiot to a true soccer person.

I still think that Sark's offense is a big problem in the losses. PK didn't do a bad job at all for us.

How should we feel about that trade? Was the issue with the running game those two off injured RBs, or was it a lousy OL? I'm not close to an expert, but as I watched them this year, I thought the issue with the offense was the OL, and a maybe a struggling QB to some extent.

Speaking of penalties, I don't know if it was DKR, FA, DMcW, JM, or MB, but I remember a coach bringing in paid college or HS refs to take part in practice, and call out penalties when they spotted them. I think I remember the coach said it disrupted things, but the discipline improved from all the teaching moments. It seems like this might be beneficial for Sark and company who don't seem to have a handle on how to fix the problem. And yes, I'm old enough to remember DKRs program. Tennessee is a beautiful State. My mom lived and worked in Franklin for a while, and we vacationed up there. I've driven through Knoxville and around Neyland, but I've never been to a game there. All who are fortunate enough to go will have a blast, especially if we play well and win.

Great post with a lot of truths. I think Sark sees this and it's why he trusts Flood. Yes, he's not been perfect in his evaluations and recruiting, but he doesn't get enough credit for the good he has done. I think he could use help with another coach who really knows IOL and run blocking (evaluations and techniques), but again Sark has to see that deficit and make that call. 🤘

Keeping him healthy will be the Spurs' biggest challenge. He is a freak, but rail thin. However, he is a total force multiplier. Spurs have a knack for timing their cratering of a season and landing a generational player in the draft.
