Texas Softball Set To Hire Second Assistant Coach | Wednesday 2:15 PM
As first reported by Softball America, Texas Softball is set to hire Arizona's Amber Freeman to fill it's second coaching vacancy. Freeman was hired at Arizona in August 2024 as an assistant coach, working primarily with the Wildcatsā hitters and catchers. In her first season, Arizona had the best offense in the Big 12, leading the conference in batting average, home runs, on-base percentage, RBI, scoring, slugging, total runs and triples. In 2026, she helped Arizona hit .340, a mark that ranked third in the Big 12 and 10th in single-season program history. Before Arizona, Freeman had stops at Georgia, Cal and Vanguard, and is part of the USA Softball coaching pool. At Georgia, she helped the Bulldogs go 43-19 and reach a Super Regional while producing one of the nationās top power offenses, and before that she helped Cal reach the NCAA Tournament after going 35-21-1. Freeman is the second hire this offseason for Head Coach Mike White, as White hired Rick Fremin just a little over a week ago.

73 Days Until Kickoff: Who Was The Best No. 73?
Our countdown to kickoff continues with No. 73, a number represented by one of the best offensive linemen in Texas history and one of the most dominant defensive tackles the program has ever produced. Jonathan Scott clearly belongs in this discussion, as he earned unanimous All-American honors and helped lead Texas to the 2005 national championship. Shaun Rogers is right there with him, as a two-time All-Big 12 selection who enjoyed a lengthy NFL career that included three Pro Bowl appearances. The current No. 73 is Brandon Baker, the former five-star offensive tackle who started all 13 games at right tackle in 2025 and is expected to remain a cornerstone of the Longhorn offensive line entering the 2026 season. Who yall taking?

Had a note on catchers in todayās insider notes , fwiw. As for the portal being slow, I agree⦠but also remember the team had to get back from Omaha, get situated, have player meetings, etc. Every team at the CWS is running behind compared to the rest of the schools out there. Youāre definitely at a clear advantage when it comes to the portal when you arenāt in Omaha, thatās for sure.

The Longhorns landed their third portal prospect this offseason, this time from Kent State outfielder Sawyer Solitaria. After visiting Tennessee on Thursday, the former MAC Freshman of the Year took in a visit to Texas on Friday, right before the NCAA dead period began. He chose the Horns over Georgia, Tennessee and Texas A&M. This past season Solitaria went .294 at the plate, driving in 47 RBIs and hit 16 home runs. Solitaria is considered a top 100 draft prospect for the 2027 MLB Draft and is expected to contribute immediately.- Baseball: St. Maryās catcher Ian Armstrong commits to Texas

With 77 days until Texas kicks off the 2026 season, itās time to recognize some of the best Longhorns to ever wear No. 77. The headliner is unquestionably Kenneth Sims. A two-time All-American, 1981 Lombardi Award winner, College Football Hall of Famer and the No. 1 overall pick in the 1982 NFL Draft, Sims remains one of the most dominant defensive players in Texas football history. His 322 career tackles, 29 sacks, 50 tackles for loss and school-record 15 forced fumbles speak for themselves. Right alongside Sims is Brad Shearer, the 1977 Outland Trophy winner and Consensus All-American. Shearer was a force in the trenches, piling up 334 career tackles while helping Texas climb to No. 1 in the national rankings during his standout career. One of the most respected figures in Longhorn history is Stanley Mauldin. A Second-Team All-American and All-Southwest Conference selection, Mauldin helped Texas win the 1942 SWC championship before serving his country as a B-24 bomber pilot during World War II. After returning home, he played for the Chicago Cardinals and helped lead them to the 1947 NFL Championship. His No. 77 was later retired by the Cardinals. The current No. 77 is Andre Cojoe.- Nolan Cain Leaves Texas, Returns to Texas A&M
