Texas needs bare minimum on offense to help overworked defense, improving special teams
It really is amazing how much the confluence of issues all hit at once on offense this season. - Bad evaluations and no development from past OL recruiting classes is bearing no fruit. - Arch in his third year gets outplayed by a redshirt freshman “local boy” from Lexington. - Five RBs in the room and not one turns out to be an elite option. (Thank you Wisener for playing so far above your weight for two seasons now. You are a dog.) - Baxter back injured which has to be expected as the norm for him going forward. - Our one skill position add in the portal Moseley hurt for the first four games. - Sark going all in on Wingo as 2025 WR1 fails to materialize for a myriad of reasons both having to do with Arch and Wingo. - Clark who we heard about all offseason either isn’t back to the same as he was as a recruit or he just wasn’t anywhere near the Bijan comparisons that we heard during his recruitment. - Endries portal bidding war win doesn’t result in the next Sanders / Helm as much as it does another body in the TE room. - And maybe most importantly, the one guy at QB we need right now to punish aggressive front 7s attacking our Swiss cheese offensive line is sitting on the bench in Miami. Having been escorted out of the program to make way for Arch. What a mess.

A Lonely Longhorn Fan
Everyone wants us to win. Everyone is ultimately happy that we won. What I’ve learned after 35 years as a “passionate” fan is that most negative reactions to seeing our team play badly are associating it with future pain in games left on the schedule. This especially happens early in the season when we haven’t played OU yet, but when expectations are raised to a new standard of CFP level Texas expectations then it now also applies to the latter part of the season as well. It doesn’t help that A&M is a top four undefeated team either.

How far back do you want me to go? Alabama boosters paid Albert Means $200,000 to go to Alabama 20+ years ago. You think the market actually went down with the revenue growth and pressure to win in this sport? Speaking of the market, once it all went legal with NIL ever wonder why the market was set where it was so quickly? Kirby was driving prices up like crazy over those few pre-covid years. 18 five stars in three years. That came straight from an orange bowl committee member. There’s also this: https://youtu.be/Xwhn2yBZpLg?feature=shared

I didn’t say NIL money.

I’m not defending Herman for those exact reasons. I’m talking about the assertion that no one else had funds available to them. Many did.

Come on man. Georgia signed 18 five stars between the three 2018-2020 classes. You don’t think they had a major payroll for that team? He learned the whole scheme from Saban. Urban Mafia at Ohio State, LSU church slush funds, we have never been on an even playing field with the most rogue programs except for maybe 2002-2004 when Mack and the program got especially desperate while getting pants’d in Dallas annually. And look what happened the next few years.

What is the contingency plan?
I agree with everything you just wrote, and also think that at certain times you need a fresh set of eyes out there for a series or two at the least. Or go two-QB system to make it harder to prepare for Arch which is getting very easy for coordinators right now. Arch has been on campus for three seasons now. The play is inexcusable and the lack of fire and leadership on th sidelines and the field as the starting QB is even worse.
-
What is the contingency plan?
With a month more perspective I totally agree w you. Caldwell has been a calm, steady and productive presence every time they’ve brought him in this year.
-
What is the contingency plan?
A little over a month ago and this question still applies. The second half of the season is at stake. Are we going to just let the wheels completely fall off before breaking the glass on even a Co-QB system like Urban did with Leak and Tebow? They won a natty doing that. Staying the course without any changes whatsoever is looking like it’s putting the player ahead of the team to these eyes.

Sark/Herman
Herman definitely never had a $30mm roster to work with.

Thoughts on the Texas offense tonight
@CJ Vogel Please ask.

Thoughts on the Texas offense tonight
It wouldn’t have taken much to win in Columbus.
-
The beginning of the end of Sark
There’s a huge difference between benching him permanently and sitting him for a few series to settle him down. Just like Sark did with Quinn. It’s a ridiculous double standard for Manning and it’s causing our team to struggle in games that should be much less competitive.

Thoughts on the Texas offense tonight
There’s also not a skill player within a million miles of Bijan, Rojo, Brooks or Whittington on this offense. What is Sark trying to build? What is his actual plan on offense? He always says what we don’t major in. What does he want to major in? I have zero clue. Someone please ask him that question.

Thoughts on the Texas offense tonight
Arch is either not good or the most woefully underprepared third year quarterback I’ve ever seen. Caldwell has this team 6-1 and that’s a two TD win tonight. No doubt in my mind. This is the most undisciplined offense I’ve ever seen especially at OL. Your D has an epic goal line stand and you start with a hold and get minus two yards total in OT? As I predicted coming out of the Spring, PK has this team Championship level ready while Sark’s side of the ball is a flaming pile of crap. Remember 6-3 at halftime of the SECCG? Sark’s side of the ball has actually gotten worse.

Young Team
We just got our ass kicked by a true freshman receiver.
-
Brooks Austin on the OL….
Brooks is absolutely right but he’s also a Georgia fan and using every opportunity to stick Texas’ nose in this mess.
-
Barnes, Townsend or Winston - short yardage back?
Choice recruited all those guys.
-
Nick Brooks - Florida
Imagine the situation at guard being so bad that Flood has to plug a true freshman OT in a left guard to try and plug the hole. What guards did he think he was grooming to take over these past three years?
-
The Real Reason We Are Struggling
I mean it makes more sense than Sark and Flood looked at this roster and thought “yeah we’re good.”
-
O-line leadership
It’s been so long since this program has had a Dan Neil / Casey Studdard type at interior OL we don’t even know what a mean nasty player at those positions looks like anymore. Flood’s big humans approach or whatever he and sark call it has been abysmal.

Traveling Squad Cuts | Florida Game
RB room needs an influx of change agents. Starting with Cooper. Wisner has done a hero’s job of filling in as an RB1 but it’s time to get RBU back to our standard.

No Easy Games Ahead
Kentucky and Arkie are the two easiest left. Everyone else can beat us on a bad day. And we can beat everyone else on a good day. This five week bonus mini camp should start paying dividends over the next two weekends.
