Texas at Ohio State Live Game Thread
I’m honestly shocked at the play calling. How many times are we going to run a slow developing run play on second down? You could call it from a mile away on that last drive.

Thank you PK and an Australian kicker for being ready. Sark and Arch you got some catching up to do. This has been a terribly called first half.

These second down slow developing runs are killing me.

Need a designed run for manning to get the nerves knocked off him. Feels like we’re driving a Buick out there on offense. Need our explosive players more involved. Wingo end around, Moore slants, whatever.

Do we make money playing OU in Dallas?
Hell no. Are you kidding?

For the Ohio State trolls saying Simmons was a non factor last year
2-2 in the series and this feels like a rivalry that’s been going on for the history of college football. Either way someone’s getting 3-2 scoreboard Saturday.

Yep all that comes with coaching. Ryan Day earned his reputation against Michigan and still wears it on his neck. He’ll probably get over it this year but you don’t lose to Michigan six times in a row at Ohio State. In similar fashion any time a coach goes 2-3 against OU you’ll start hearing about it. 0-2 against Ohio State he’ll hear about it. 0-3 against Georgia he’ll hear about it. My point was that to withstand any one of those you need counter points which this win would hugely provide.- Steve Sarkisian Monday Press Conference (August 25)
This game doesn't matter as much to the Team goals of this season, but it certainly matters to Sark's reputation in winning big games. As CJ pointed out recently, lose and Sark's now 0-2 to Ohio State, 0-2 to Georgia, 0-2 to Washington, 2-2 to OU. Win the game and you shut that entire line of thinking up with another early season road win over a big name: Ohio State, Michigan, Bama.- SEC implementing nine game conference schedule in 2026

@Bobby Burton in case you missed this.- Goosby Question - Mods
I doubt he would let OSU know that our starting Left Tackle is possibly out for the game.- Reshuffling on the OL (Monday 1:50 p.m.)
Definitely more depth and that’ll shake out during the course of the season but OSU game to OSU game I’m riding with the starter comparison.- Reshuffling on the OL (Monday 1:50 p.m.)
You’re right, Cotton Bowl wasn’t great. It’ll be interesting to see how the current WR compare to this production this year: Golden 2 for 51 Moore 4 for 31 Bolden 1 for 24 Wingo 1 for 22 Bond 1 for 8- Reshuffling on the OL (Monday 1:50 p.m.)
That's actually a good topic for @Gerry Hamilton @Bobby Burton and @CJ Vogel. What position groups on the team have gotten better, worse or are treading water from where they were at the Cotton Bowl earlier this year. I'll go first: QB - Treading water. I think Arch has a higher ceiling but third start vs. Quinn's last game at Texas you have to call at best a push. RB - Treading water. For better or worse the staff decided to roll with our roster from last season. It'll be a heavy dose of Wisner and some smaller percentages of Baxter and Clark. Losing Blue's production from the Cotton Bowl also hurts. WR - Downgrade from the Cotton Bowl. Golden alone gives the 2024 squad the advantage. Moore is Moore. Wingo can unseat Golden for sure this season but he hasn't done it yet. TE - Downgrade. Edge to Helm at this point over Endries. OL - Downgrade. Gotta go 2024 until we see what's up with this new OL arrangement. So many mixed reports from camp about DL all over the backfield. We really won't know until Columbus, but I'll take Banks, Majors and Williams as known the known commodity. DT - Push. We are much deeper now but i'm not sure any two of the current DT stack up to Collins and Broughton as a pure duo on the field yet. Edge - IMPROVEMENT! Gotta love the depth and development here. A big advantage over the Cotton Bowl. LB - IMPROVEMENT! Another year of Ant. More supporting cast around him. Looking really good here. DB - Push. Hard to not say it's a downgrade when you lose Makuba and Barron, but we seem stacked with options and another offseason with Manny in a possible contract year, another offseason with a hugely motivated Taaffe, and development from the youth movement around them and I think this is a push with potential to be a better position group by year's end. SPECIAL TEAMS - HUGE UPGRADE. I'd also like to see a huge upgrade from kickoff and punt returns this season. Might as well start with a game breaker in Columbus.- 1970: Ohio State or Texas
My defense: Big difference between a fake natty and a split natty. UPI granted their trophy before bowls back then and chose Texas. Lot of split champions awarded by the two main authorities in the history of the sport. Fake natty would be like Texas claiming 2008 because we didn’t agree with the B12 tie-breaker rule.- Upcoming Tour
Hey @Bobby Burton I heard you mention Happiest Hour in your chat with Nick. My OU group has been going there the past theee years after the game and it’s been a lot of fun. The place is huge the food is great and it has a lot of TVs for post OU game watching. If you and the OTF ever needed a place to post up after OU I highly recommend that place as a post show location. Lots of horns there. We bumped into Wisners entire family there last year after his big game. Give it a look when you’re up there for the Third and Longhorn thing and see what you think? Hook’em.- Reshuffling on the OL (Monday 1:50 p.m.)
Amen. Had a drink with CTJ in New Orleans prior to the Washington game and it was fun tracing back the 20 years of message boards together. We’re all on the same team. Hook’em.- Reshuffling on the OL (Monday 1:50 p.m.)
I hate to walk in to the middle of a compete street fight of a thread and ask a question but what exactly was the plan at OT if Brooks hadn’t presented as a ready option on this line? The staff has known Baker has had a slow development curve on campus. Had Brooks not been ready (which he still might not be) was it all in on Cojoe as the third option swing tackle?- Deep defensive tackle rotation is a key piece of Steve Sarkisian's plan to get Texas over the hump
The depth is going to be hugely beneficial but I wonder if you lined up any two of the current rotation of DTs on campus how they would rank this season against the following pairs: 1. Coburn / Ojomo 2. Sweat / Murphy 3. Collins / Broughton- 2025 "Get your HOT TAKES"
Auburns got two natties, three heisman winners and 8 SEC rings. SC doesn’t have anything.- 2025 "Get your HOT TAKES"
Beamer is coaching Auburn next season.- Upcoming Tour
On the subject of Dallas, @Bobby Burtonany plans for another Texas OU remote broadcast this year?- Tshirt Ideas
OTF logo on front pocket, Burton photo with BOOM on the back. Sold!- CJ Baxter may need a lot more time....
I'd expect this year to be the Wisner + Clark show, with some backup carries for Gibson and Simon, especially in games 2-4. Gibson and Simon both probably have a chance in those three pre-Florida games to earn the coaches trust and get more carries the rest of the season. Baxter is a luxury item. I'm not sure you go into this season relying on him for any of it, but he'd be great to have during that November slate. - Steve Sarkisian Monday Press Conference (August 25)
