So this is Indiana football. They're fine for now. He's shown that he's a very good coach but he's a long way from being ready for the SEC.

He's never recruited high D-I. I'd be shocked if Texas went for that.

I think this is correct. It would be great to win a game this week but if they don't, it's time to win beginning at South Carolina. Fortunately, the schedule actually lightens up at that point.

Thing to remember: According to KenPom, Texas still has the toughest schedule in the SEC. That won't be going down this week. After this week, they'll be meeting teams at their level or worse.

Yes, dated the same day as the ISU release and tweet. If he signed, why not say that? The school might not put out the terms but the media surely would, as that's basically the first question a reporter would ask. (What are the terms? What are the buyouts?) I think the last extension was Ot-friendly -- he owes much less to leave than ISU owes if he is fired. Also, it's been almost two months and no details. I don't think the deal is done, and if it is done, he hasn't actually signed it.

I agree, he was not treated well at IU. You talked about Nebraska football.... They fired Frank Solich because he wasn't Tom Osborne, and they've found no one like Osborne since. I grew up watching Big Ten ball and IU was different/special. Knight actually elevated it and kept it consistently nationally relevant. This status is not a given, even though a handful of schools have the fan base interest to keep it relevant.

No, they announced an extension. Contract details were not released (because I don't think the contract had been prepared). I don't think Iowa State can "match any offer." He will end up in the Big Ten or SEC because that's where the money is. If Terry is let go, of course Texas should get involved.

He hasn't won enough. If he were Pitino at that age, sure, but Rick has always won.

Wade has served his time away from high D-I, and strong-ass offers are now A-OK. So yeah, he should be vetted.

I've conversed with a dude who puts him at the top of his list and I've tried to explain that Texas won't do that.

This is my concern. Recruiting is an entirely different animal at high D-I.

Turns 60 this year, completing 10 HC years. I think he'd move over one seat than go back to college. And that ignores his alleged hatred of college recruiting.

If the guy is looking to leave the NBA, probably forever, then yeah. If it's a guy with Texas ties, I'd be surprised.

He blazed the trail on that one. I've heard many high D-I coaches echo what he said in the years since.

I have long said that the turning point for Barnes was failing to sign Marcus Smart in 2012. The reason he failed was that he was unwilling to offer Smart's best friend, Phil Forte. For what it's worth, Bill Self also did not want to offer Forte, and Forte's dad had *played* at Kansas. Travis Ford (Oklahoma State) was the coach who was willing to sign Forte, and he got Smart (for two years, as it turned out) and Forte (for five). Forte was a good to very good guard for Oklahoma State. He shot 88 percent from the FT line and a tick under 40 percent BTA for his career. Barnes' 2013 class was not terrible, but he sure could have used Smart. He had his only under-.500 season at Texas. When Julius Randle came to visit that year, he was told by a couple of players not to come to Texas because of how Barnes was treating them. Randle went to Kentucky instead -- I suppose he might have gone there anyway -- but Barnes's run as a pro training ground for in-state players essentially was over. The last gasp was signing Myles Turner for 2015 to play with his then-veteran core, but it did not mesh. His defense-first philosophy was taken down by a lack of offense. This is pretty much what's going on today at Tennessee. Personally, I would have kept Barnes on, but as @bierce noted above, the expectations he himself had set caused his downfall.

Made it a school decision, I would imagine.
