Jeff, do you have a clue as to how Gasparino's once hot bat went ice cold? It was almost a surprise that he made solid contact again. He is too solid in CF to take out of the lineup, but early season his bat was a feature, not a glitch.

I watched Joel Klatt on YouTube yesterday. He was grading QBs, and said Klubnik was the best returning QB. I have thought highly of Klubnik since his Westlake days and IIRC Gerry and Bobby and CJV think well of Klubnik now. Klatt thought that because he trusted Sark’s process and Arch’s dedication [along with Arch’s talent] that Arch would be the second best QB returning. Klatt said that he watched Washington State film for the entire season because he had to prep for being their Bowl game commentator, and he thought Mateer was the third best returning QB. To me, Klatt sounds reasonable and not like a hype machine. What is your take? Do you think Klatt is value added? Many of you here have opinions supported by football experience, which I do not, so I enjoy the community guidance about who are trustworthy football commentators and who are not.

Tennessee lefty is really tough - his curve is too much for Texas' lefthanded batters and hard on the righties, too, although I cannot tell why from the TV. It must look late breaking from behind the plate.

Off topic, didn't Winston also play basketball in HS? I remember an SBN article - I think - that said he averaged something like 13 rebounds per game in HS at 6-1. BTW, Winston's listed height and weight scream "fullback" a la Ahmard Hall. He ran some in HS, so I wonder if he is an option running or blocking as a FB near the goal line, who could leak out for a pass, as well. Forgive the digression - it was prompted by the footballer on the hardwood post.

This would be an interesting topic for a civics discussion. We all agree that everyone has a right to the soapbox as long as everyone gets a turn and once on the soapbox one does not incite violence or criminal behavior. So let's say I disagree with the celebrity Ted Nugent or the celebrity Lebron James. Do I resent the celebrity for having a bigger soapbox than I have? Or do I resent him or her because I disagree? I expect politicians to have bigger soapboxes about politics and scientists to have bigger soapboxes about science, but maybe I have succumbed to thinking people should stay in their lane. But here is a fact of American political history. Everybody gets to use the politics lane and the religion lane. Everybody. It has been one of the exceptional features of the USA. So I might lament the whole social network as People Magazine on steroids [and at 81, I do] but I think the alternative is much worse - see Russia. See China.

At first glance I am also critical of the hire. However, looking around the NBA, I think there are only two really good coaches, Kerr and Spoelstra. All the others seem to make bone headed decisions on rotations, on defenses, or on handling their spoiled rich rosters. So I will withhold judgment, hope he fills out his coaching staff [which was very short handed] with really good assistants, and gets the job done. If he does not, Steve Kerr's contract expires at the end of next season. That might provide a chance to hire the best.
