LSU DL commit Walter Mathis Jr. visit update (Sunday 5:32 pm CST)
@Gerry Hamilton, so is this basically a first come first served type of situation with Sims, Simpson, Mathis, Mbatchou, Wynn, etc?? First two to commit are in and then we shut it down....??

Mississippi State QB Next Weekend
I'm pretty sure I saw that the game would be 3:15pm on the SEC network. Edit: I posted at the same time as Blake.

Arch Manning named SEC Co-Offensive Freshman of the Week
I guess it was Reed of A&M but I originally assumed it was Ryan Williams. Durham would've been a good choice too.

Rat poison warning thread!!!
I agree but when you only have 3 games to go off of then you have no choice but to judge the full body of work and to this point that game represents 33.333% of what we've seen and that didn't show me they were a clear top 2 team in the country. They're good but I don't know that they're better than Ohio State, Georgia, Ole Miss, Tennessee, etc.

Alabama didn't look all that great vs a not good South Florida team.

OU’s SEC schedule
Theirs has been viewed as tougher because not only is there the SEC schedule with Tennessee, Texas, Georgia, LSU, etc but of their 4 non-conference games 3 of them are against in-state power 4 programs in Miami, UCF and Florida St (I know) whereas as OU's toughest non-conference is either Tulane or Houston in addition to Temple and Maine.

OU’s SEC schedule
I live down the street from where Hawkins played his HS ball and I don't recall him setting the world on fire back then. I just don't see him coming in and turning losses into wins. This seems more like a going from Swoopes to Heard like situation moreso than Rattler to Williams.

OTF in Jacksonville: Jaime Ffrench time!!!
Man, things really are different in Florida than they are in Texas.

UT transfers (outbound)
Was he not doing that at Texas?

Did two teams essentially punch their playoff ticket Saturday?
If it plays out like that then there's a good chance Miami is the #4 seed and Notre Dame the #5 seed depending on what happens in the Big 12.

Myopic Dabo Swinney post Georgia loss press conference
Was at the game this Saturday sitting in the Clemson section and I feel for Clemson fans. They are extremely frustrated with Dabo but can't do anything about it because he's a made man there. He's basically untouchable. Very similar to what Mack Brown thought of himself late in his tenure except he's not the greatest coach in our history while Dabo is. They look so much like 2010-2013 Texas that it's scary.

Peyton Manning on Pat McAfee show talking SEC and Arch
Isn't he also a former teammate of Peyton's or did their paths not cross in Indy??

He just has to stay healthy and the sky is the limit (or the ceiling is the roof) for him.

Texas Basketball 2024-25 Thread
Its going to be interesting to see what they do with him and the other guards. You've got 5 guys on the perimeter that you'd be comfortable starting but can only start 3 of them. Maybe its not a big deal if they can sell two on having Sir'Jabari-like roles. Larry is tougher because he's the only true point on the roster with a bunch of natural scorers.

• 16 teams in conference • Play 18 conference games • Play OU/Arky/Aggy home and away • Play everyone else once • Non-conference will be padded with buy games after bigger games with Ohio St, UConn, NC State and two of Syracuse/Tech/St Joseph.

Agreed. I love horns basketball and while some of my posts may read as if I'm a sunshine pumper, I can definitely see the bottom falling out of a roster like this if things don't break right. We've got a lot of score first guys that came from losing programs. The optimist in me says they learned from those situations and are now willing to sacrifice and do the little things that contribute to winning but we're still talking about young guys with aspirations of going to the NBA while thinking they have to score to get there. Some of them still haven't figured why there are guys playing in the summer league that will average 20+ ppg and not sniff an NBA roster while there will be other guys averaging 5 ppg contributing to playoff teams in the NBA. RT has assembled a good amount of talent and it will take a valiant effort from the entire coaching staff to get this group to buy in but IF they do...look out!!

Texas Basketball 2024-25 Thread
Yeah, I said back when Beard was assembling his first team at Texas that the only potential NBA prospect on that team was Jaylon Tyson. The only other NBA type guys we've had were Ron Holland and AJ Johnson that never showed up, Dillon Mitchell who hasn't learned how to consistently make a shot outside of 10ft, and Arterio Morris for obvious reasons. Outside of Tre Johnson, Devon Pryor might be the one other potential NBA prospect just in terms of athleticism and body type provided he puts it all together and he probably doesn't get off the bench for a second consecutive year.

Tre has the highest reputation but until he does it at this level he's more of an unknown for me than Pope or Mark. Now, if he lives up to the hype and becomes that clear 1st option while blending well with Pope (who I would rank ahead of Mark offensively) and Mark then as you mentioned we will be well on our way to a good to great season. If Kaluma can figure some things out and join the party then watch the hell out!!

Texas Basketball 2024-25 Thread
Man, you said a lot but failed to mention Jordan Pope who I think will be an awesome player for Texas. He's pretty close to a 1-to-1 comparison to Abmas & Carr of the last two teams. I think he'll be an elite player for us as well but the way he, Tre & Tramon gel and develop chemistry will determine if we look like a well-oiled machine on the perimeter or if its just three talented guys trying to go 1 on 1 each time down the court.

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN THIS LOVE AFFAIR WITH OREGON???
I can say as a kid I was a big fan of Cincinnati basketball coached by Bob Huggins because of their uniforms and relationship with Jordan brand in the late 90s/early 2000s.

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN THIS LOVE AFFAIR WITH OREGON???
Speaking as someone that's worked in education 10+ years I can tell that whenever I asked kids who their favorite college teams were it was always the same answers. For basketball it was Kentucky or Duke and for football it was always Oregon and Alabama. The Alabama reason was obvious but all the kids loved the Oregon uniforms and all their variations. Now with NIL and the even deeper affiliation with Nike, Oregon being kids' favorite schools is now translating to commitments imo.

That is until Oregon decides to get him just because they feel like it.

Love his game based on watching a few full games on ESPN+ after he and Kent committed. Love both their games and the entire Indiana State team was a really fun watch. I'm hopeful that Larry/Kent/Weaver can provide a similar mentality that the bench group of Rice/Bishop/Brock did for that '22-23 team.
