HOOK 'EM | 2025 CB Caleb Chester Commits to Texas

Hook ‘Em!
Texas has earned a commitment from 2025 Fort Bend Marshall CB Caleb Chester following his official visit to Texas last weekend.
The Longhorns led for the 6-foot-1 cornerback coming into the weekend and made a strong enough impression on the visit for Chester to shut things down for good.
Chester was slated to officially visit Texas A&M and Arkansas over the next two weekends, so for the Longhorns to get him to shut things down was quite the victory. Chester brings great length and athleticism out wide.There is plenty to like on tape and still room for development for the next level.
Of course, the addition of Chester to the 2025 class helps the Longhorns with 2026 DB Isaiah Williams and LB Noriel Dominguez as well. 
Texas is up to 11 commits in the class with two massive official visit weekends slate for the next two weeks as well.

Texas/NFL Draft

There were two major surprises and one pleasant one on Friday.
First, T’Vondre was selected early on by the Tennessee Titans. The consensus view of Sweat slipping out of the early rounds apparently wasn’t one the Titans subscribed to despite Sweat’s DUI arrest two weeks ago.
Second, Adonai Mitchell slid all the way to no. 52, likely largely on reports that Mitchell was difficult in practice at both Georgia and Texas. Mitchell will now head to Indianapolis where he’ll get a fresh start.
And then the pleasant one… Jonathon Brooks became the second consecutive Longhorn to be selected the first running back in the NFL draft. He’s heading to Carolina.

Anyone who thought Texas lost to a lesser talented Washington team needs to think twice, particularly on offense.
Through the first three rounds, UW has had its QB, three wide receivers and both offensive tackles already taken.

Michigan currently leads with a total of seven players selected in the first. Texas sits at five thus far.
The Wolverines might have as many as 13 players selected by the end of today. That’s even heavier attrition than Texas is likely to see.
JT Sanders, Christian Jones and Jaylan Ford will all almost assuredly be drafted, which will give the Horns eight picks total for comparison.

Good luck to Jordan Whittington, Ryan Watts and Keilan Robinson today. Many think they are all on the fringe of being draft picks.

A few Texas Longhorns will continue to hear their name called today in the fourth through seventh round of the 2024 NFL Draft. 
In the day or two following the conclusion of the 2024 draft, the way-too-early 2025 mock drafts will begin being published. 
Before those start hitting the internet, I'm providing a list of where I think the 2025 draft eligible Longhorns start ahead of the 2024 season.

2024 NFL Draft Thread

The 2024 NFL Draft will begin at 7 p.m. central tonight with the first round taking place. The second through seventh round will take place Friday and Saturday.
The Longhorns are expected to set a program record for a seven round draft with eight to ten selections. The 2007 NFL Draft produced seven selections - Michael Griffin, Aaron Ross, Justin Blalock, Tim Crowder, Brian Robinson, Tarell Brown and Kasey Studdard.
The most players ever selected in the first seven rounds in program history was in 1984 with 10 (17 total in 12 round draft). Nine players were drafted in the first seven rounds of the 1982 draft with 12 total in the 12 rounds.

Oregon State transfer PG Jordan Pope commits to Texas
The Texas Longhorns added a huge piece to 2024-25 team this afternoon.
Oregon State transfer PG/CG Jordan Pope committed to Texas over Texas A&M ten minutes ago. 
With Pope in the fold, the Longhorns will have constructed a back court that is versatile, multiple ball handlers, multiple shooters from three, size to play big, athleticism, depth and very good offensive feel. The Longhorns will have a deeper and bigger backcourt in 2024-25. 
Jordan Pope by the numbers
Pope (6-1.5, 170) averaged 15.1 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game over 64 games (63 starts) in two seasons. He connected on 43.9% from the field, 37.4% from three and 86.1% from the foul line. He starred as a sophomore averaging 17.6 points, 2.6 rebounds and 3.4 assists in 2023-24. That included 45.1% from the field, 37.1% from three (66 makes) and 87.9% from the free throw line (94 of 107). 
Pope scored 20 or more in 12 games during the 2023-24 season. He scored a season high 31, including a game winner, against Arizona. 
His numbers in Pac-12 play included 17.9 points per game with 41 made three's.

Austin Jordan to…

the portal.
I was told on Tuesday that Jordan had decided to stay at Texas. Obviously, that decision flipped from what I was told yesterday.
Jordan is a class of 2022 signee and was currently running 3rd team at the star position. Even though he was 3rd team, Jordan was considered a valuable member of the Texas secondary.
Jordan is the second member of the secondary to declare an intent to transfer in as many days. Returning starting cornerback Terrance Brooks announced a similar decision on Tuesday.
