I've been in the process of writing a piece for this website about the Texas players who are expected to be selected in this year's NFL draft. I wanted to give a deeper look of just how those players were perceived as recruits. I'll finish and post that article later this morning; it includes some hard and soft data, and it could spark a conversation that I think will prove interesting and informative. Well, as I was researching and writing that article last night, it was announced tha

Some behind the scenes notes from workouts... On Texas Football has been told that three Texas players have been limited in off-season workouts: - Tight end Amari Niblack - Wide receiver Matthew Golden - Defensive end Colton Vasek Niblack is dealing with a foot injury. Like Niblack, Matthew Golden has also been in a boot for much of this off-season. Vasek is dealing with an ankle injury. None of the injuries are expected to keep players out long-term. **

Texas linebacker Anthony Hill Jr. was downgraded to doubtful for Saturday’s home game against Arkansas (2:30 p.m., ABC) on Friday’s SEC student-athlete availability report. The good news for the Longhorns is that wide receiver Ryan Wingo, who has been dealing with a thumb injury he sustained in the team’s 34-31 win over Vanderbilt on Nov. 1, was off the report. He was listed as probable on Wednesday and Thursday. The bad news, however, is that Texas (7-3, 4-2 SEC) could have to face an

I have made a handful of stops to Austin area schools over the last week – Pflugerville Weiss, Lake Travis, Vandegrift. While most of these trips conclude with the big-time Texas prospect receiving all of the love and shine, I wanted to drop a little scouting report for prospects in the area that could eventually end up on P5 radars. ***  Pflugerville Weiss 2027 WR Tre Moore (6-foot-3, 180 pounds) – Coaches at Weiss raved about his potential. Big-body wide receiver with fluid

Spent the morning out at Westlake High School in Austin to check in on a number of top prospects, as well as catching up with Coach Tony Salazar, one of the best coaches in the state. There were a number of prospects that stood out on the trip, though five specifially caught my eye. *** 2026 QB Rees Wise was mentioned by our Gerry Hamilton yesterday in a 2026 quarterback article yesterday. Wise has received offers from Houston, SMU, Texas Tech, Oklahoma State and Nebraska since the middle

Former Texas analyst and TCU head coach Gary Patterson has found a new home in the state of Texas — Waco.  Patterson has been hired by Baylor HC Dave Aranda to join the program as a senior level consultant. Quite the conundrum for both fan bases  as both have a long history rooting for and against Patterson in the TCU-Baylor rivalry.

Continuing the earlier discussion that focuses on whether or not - or just how well - Texas has refilled the roster pipeline this recruiting campaign, here's a look at the defensive side of the ball. Edge Colin Simmons, Zina Umeozulu Player Grade: A Simmons is a true blue chip. His explosiveness is rare. So too is his ability to bend the edge. He has long arms and good motor and a willingness to play through contact. There's a reason he's the two-time defensive MVP of the sta

In my years following recruiting, I’ve seen top five classes not actually “fit” the needs of the program, either immediately or over the long haul. Texas has done that a few times in my career. The Horns would need more guys on offensive line yet come up short. Or perhaps they needed more guys in the secondary and it just didn’t get addressed as well as it could have. It’s typical, even for the very best classes,

Jim Harbaugh is headed back to the NFL. What does that mean to the University of Texas? Well, just like when Nick Saban retired, players of the coach's former school, Michigan, now have 30 days to enter the NCAA transfer portal. There are a multitude of players on the Michigan roster that Texas would likely have interest in, including defensive tackle Mason Graham and cornerback Will Johnson. However, neither player has openly mentioned leaving Ann Arbor following the national tit
