It’s been said here and other sites

Dan Neil had a piece on another site and just layed it out perfectly. Texas insistence on “large humans” has been mostly a failure. I realize Dan was undersized and nasty and that is exactly who he says are the type of players Texas needs to pivot to at least at center and guard.

He says it won’t get fixed this year and the scheme they ran vs OU should be the gameplan in every game and was incredulous why they didn’t use it vs UK.

I realize it’s been said in so many words on here and elsewhere but Dan knows ball and lived it.

Tony Hills said the same thing.

The players we have are biproducts of the culture they’re in with regards to our offensive players.

Could've sworn I saw a poster on here yesterday say Tony isn't "qualified" to criticize.

Dan Neal wouldn’t be a started in today’s football.

Definitely. I’m not sure if it is a big human or not thing as much as a fit within the scheme and culture problem. Brooks is massive and could be a great player for us. Agree Turntine is the gem of the OL class this year but if we had gotten a Cantwell, a massive human, I don’t think it would be a mistake.

You love big humans so long as they’re athletic. You can’t be a big human and not athletic. Nastiness I believe is something that can be coached into and out of players. That ability to coach into and out of is 90% on the coaching staff and 10% on the player. Yay, made up statistics but the overall point is that if you coach a rough hard nose program that will be the results you get and the players who don’t buy into it will weed themselves out(you’re hoping that it’s the smaller portion of your recruits).

The F he wouldn’t.  That dude would play and play well in any era.

And what does that have to do with anything?  Coach Flood would also not be a starter in today’s football. Neither would you or I.

He would for sure start. He played many years in the NFL at a little south of 300 pounds (~280-285), but his quickness and high motor would carry him in today's game as it did in yesterdays. Wish we had a guy like him now.

That might've worked in the Big12, but I'm not certain it will in the SEC with the talent on the defensive front in this league. Then again, I'm not a former pro offensive lineman😂

Whatever we are doing now obviously isn’t working so….

Sark came out with a trash game plan. Hope he changes before he turns into Tom Herman.

Culture isn’t a week to week or even a year to year thing.

People forget that Kelce played center at 280 in today’s NFL and will be a hall of famer.

People forget or never knew?

The key for such a player, really any player, is to be in the right spot for their profile and skill.

...and if I recall correctly, most of those years in NFL were in a zone running scheme?

I saw an interview with Kelce talking about his lack of size at 6'2" 280 and how he was able to be so successful. Against bigger he would use his leverage to get under them. Against smaller he could use his arm length for leverage. He said the one player he hated going against was Poona Ford at 5'11". He said he couldnt get under him and Poona had longer arms. He couldnt block him.

Just because Hills and Neil both played on the O-Line in college and in the NFL doesn't qualify them.  Even though they both have Super Bowl rings shouldn't mean a thing.....  Oh wait, maybe......  (they might know what they're talking about.)

This is insanity. Dan Neil would be our best OL by a huge margin.

(btw I used to work with Dan. Nice guy. It was strange to be sitting in meetings next to Dan Neil, not too long after watching him win Super Bowls.)

The OL has no nastiness to them. No Studdard, if you will. That’s on the HC and OL coach period.

That is a very fair and obvious assessment. I don't think the answer to that is recruiting "undersized" offensive linemen.
