QB question

Featured Replies

I know it gets overlooked but Trey Owens did not get the backup or 3rd string nod

What happened here? Was it talent level? Work ethic, Sark hates him?

How did he go from immediate back up to basically a transfer guy?

Any inside info would be awesome to hear.

Thank you.

My guess is he’s been passed up by Lacey and he will transfer at the end of the season.

I noticed no talk about Trey owen’s after spring practice. It’s obvious something is going on. Not one mention of Trey in any of Sarks pressers. Another thing not one question about Trey to Sark from reporters. appears we are the only ones that don’t know?  Almost certain he will be in portal. If he’s even still with team.

Just my thoughts

I didn't see him on any of the shots of the bench, I believe last year he was usually on the bench close to Arch.

He was celebrating with Manning after one of his TD's on the sideline.

Trey is going to transfer, it is what it is. Thanks for your time on the 40 and for being a good teammate until the winter portal opens. Hook 'Em!

Could be that he got passed up, could be that he doesn't fit the mold of what Sark wants at QB anymore. I mean look at the QB's since he first arrived that he recruited vs the ones he's recruited now. Quinn Ewers from the portal, Maalik Murphy, Trey Owens. What do these guys all have in common? More pocket passing guys, not very mobile/athletic. Since then he's recruited Arch Manning, KJ Lacey and now Dia Bell. Who is the '27 target? Kavian Bryant. What do these guys all have? Mobility, athleticism, etc. Yet can still hit all the throws that Sark wants.

Just my take on it anyway. Don't think it's anything specific that Trey has done or didn't do, just think it's Sark going a different direction with what he wants out of his QB's and adapting his Offense to that.

I will say that I see him cheering on everyone from the sidelines. He’s very vocal and often one of the first people to congratulate Arch after a good series.

good teammate.

Sark seems to be opening up to the idea of more mobile QBs to run his offense, which I think you need in this era of football more than ever.  Loved seeing some designed runs to get Arch engaged emotionally in this last game.

Completely agree with you. Watch the NFL, having a mobile QB in this era is a necessity. Letting them run is almost a must as well...

Trey came to The University of Texas competed, worked hard, and learned all while knowing Arch was going to be the starter when Quinn left.. Did he get passed up, yes Sark knows it's a mobile QB game.. Why Caldwell was brought in plus experience.. Hats off to Trey he will do great wherever he transfers 🤘🏿

It hasn't been overlooked.  @Bobby Burton et al. have commented on practice reps at QB throughout August.  That Sark went into the spring portal to get a QB and #15's playing time speaks for itself.

Oh man, I forgot our boy Charlies Wright, who fits into the first mold, too.

The reason he went into the portal is to have some experience at back up. Owens has next to no playing time and Lacey is a Fr.
