I don't see the issue with ND's scheduling and remaining independent? It's not like they lost to Northern Southern Illinois and made the National Championship or anything.

I wrongly attributed the mighty Salukis to Northern Illinois instead of Southern Illinois. horns96 regrets the error.

ND is overrated so often now. This isn't the college football of older days anymore. Get in a conference and earn your spot in the playoffs.

ND, by being independent now has the easiest path to CFP because of the 12 team scheme (and maybe 16 team scheme)

Don't see how you can make them join a conference. The selection rules for the next CFP agreement need to stipulate that there will be a strong SOS component like they have for baseball and basketball.

If it’s coming down to us and ND for the last spot in a 12 or 16 team seeding we’ve got bigger issues than ND. 

 

The new CFP scheme makes ND’s path to playoffs distinctly easier—CFB landscape has changed to the benefit of ND (coincidence or not)
I challenge ND to join the SEC where ND cannot dictate their SOS.  ND cannot survive to the CFP—and they know it.

But I suspect if ND is required to join a conference…they will pick ACC to align with the rest of ND’s sports programs
