Live on the scene in Indianapolis, Wednesday marks the beginning of the 2025 NFL Combine week of festivities. 

On field workouts start Thursday, but player availabilities kickoff this morning. 

With a program record 14 Longhorns in attendance, you will find coverage here for the week!

A couple of participation updates:

• DL Vernon Broughton will NOT participate on the on-field drills this week in Indianapolis. Broughton said he suffered a strain to his hip flexor about to weeks prior to the Senior Bowl.
• DL Alfred Collins will perform the on-field skills drills this weekend, but no bench press, 40-yard dash or other testing skills. He will however, perform those drills at the Texas Pro Day on March 26.

UPDATE: Thursday 10:00 a.m.

• DB Andrew Mukuba, CB Jahdae Barron and TE Gunnar Helm are set to speak with Media today at the Combine. 

• DB Andrew Mukuba says he will do most of his on-field work at the Texas Pro Day March 26.

• TE Gunnar Helm says he will participate in "mostly everything" Friday afternoon when the tight ends take the field.

• CB Jahdae Barron says he will participate in his Combine Drills Friday. "Most definitely, I'm getting after it."

On field work for Broughton, Collins and Sorrell to begin at 3:00 p.m.

DL and EDGE will speak today with the media, meaning Barryn Sorrell, Vernon Broughton and Alfred Collins are on the podium to begin the week for the Longhorn contingency. 

Barryn Sorrell is set to talk at 8:40 ET

Broughton at 10:00 and Collins at 10:20 a.m.

Barryn Sorrell speaking now. 

 

 

Sorrell says he also had an informal meeting with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. 

He was asked if he had met with the Cowboys yet, but mentioned he has nothing planned so far this week.

EDGE Barryn Sorrell was asked teammates who aren't currently talked about by NFL Scouts will be talked about next year during NFL Draft prep:

"Man, that's the good thing about The University of Texas. I feel like there are so many I can name, especially in my room. We have a lot of guys coming up. I would say guys like Colton Vasek and Ethan Burke. Guys that are about to get their time now with older guys leaving. I am ready for all of my guys really to step up to the challenge."

Vernon Broughton was asked who the next leaders are for the Texas defense in 2025:

“Definitely Michael Taaffe.”

Broughton mentioned Colin Simmons, Anthony Hill Jr. as well. 

 

 

 

Alfred Collins and Vernon Broughton have each mentioned Alex January as the great Texas DL.

“That’s the top dude on my list right now.” Said Collins. 

 DL Alfred Collins will only participate in skill drills at the Combine this week. 

Collins will bench and run at the Texas Pro Day March 26. 

Vernon Broughton was asked which food he would compare his game to — he said scallops. Why?

”because scallops are good!”

With these combine position groupings I just realized we have players from almost every position invited to this year's combine.  Can't remember when that happened.

A QB, RB, TE, two WR, FOUR OL (C, OG, 2 OT) on offense, every position covered.

An Edge, S, CB and 2 DL on defense - everything but LB

That's impressive and a testimony to our recruiting and player development.

Vernon Broughton was asked the strongest player on the team last year – Kelvin Banks or Jermayne Lole.

Same question but for fastest player on the team – Jahdae Barron.

Maybe a surprise on that fastest player answer.

Both Vernon Broughton and Alfred Collins said Georgia RG Tate Ratledge was the toughest offensive lineman they faced in 2024.

For fastest player I got Bond (if fully healthy) and then Blue over Barron, but we will soon see ... ok guys, who you got in this Longhorn race?

I was going to take Bond by a hair over Blue.
