Shane buchele, Devin duvernay, and Collin Johnson are the 3 that I remember first heavily watching 

As a fan, it was James Brown and Ricky Williams for me. Once I started playing and became a tight end, it was all about Bo Scaife and David Thomas. Thomas had a hell of a game in the National Championship, and I still remember the play where he ran his route, slipped and fell, but still got up enough to make the catch.

Earl Campbell when I was too young to appreciate much about football. He made being a fan easy.

Britt Hager when I was older and understood more. Watching him gut it out against A&M in those days, with 20 tackles in a game or more, was something. The #60 was magic and made me want to learn more about past Texas players.

I have two…Earl Campbell, but he was already a Houston Oiler. He used to sign pictures at the Skoal table (HLS&R). Second was Eric Metcalf. I remember the magazine pictures with him on the front depicting his run for The Heisman.

VY I was a freshman in high school when I really starting following the horns and he was at the top a close second for me was Jammal Charles

Like many others here, it was Metcalf for me.  Grew up watching the Horns with my dad, but the first player I remember really standing out to me was Eric.  Every time he touched the ball he was a threat to score.  He was a hell of a long-jumper as well.

Britt Hager in football and Brooks Kieschnick in baseball.

I agree with Southpaw.  That backfield was amazing.  Always expected them to make the play.

A little off topic, but this play came to mind.  Robin Sendlein covering a kick off for his first play as a freshman.  He dove over the wall of three blockers making the tackle and separating his shoulder.  Ran off the field with a big Hook'em on one arm and dragging the other arm behind him.  

You younger fans probably remember his son Lyle.  

First one - James Saxton - Averaged 7.9 yards per carry in 1961.
