Given that Texas may not get any DT HS recruits how many will they try to get next year (2026) class and who is 1 in state and 2 out of state guys Texas should already be pursuing?

It’s only July, let’s see what happens with high school recruiting and the portal before discussing numbers for 2026.

The portal doesn't produce many dts that are going to be "that guy." There will have to be some monumental change to get those guys in this class.  That's the reality of it. Coming away this year with none or 1 does not fill that void.

We will target 25 dt's next year.  That is the only position we will recruit.

See if we can find some kids that had promising freshman seasons and try to $$whip em.

Seeing as every DT that had an OV to Texas less 1, who has a lot of interest in UM and ATM I would say it's a long shot to get to the 4 number Texas needs....much more likely they get 0 or 1.  And def not an aggy, just a realist.

Remember that year when we landed three DL in the portal, anyone of which may be “the guy“ whatever that is. Those were the days! Oh wait, that was 2024.

The guy would be a T Sweat or B Murph type.  Of the 3 Texas signed which do you believe will end up as a 1 or 2 round draft pick?  Which one of them is going to force O Coord to change or alter a game plan?  That's what the guy does.  An honest question of curiosity

DT is a position that we haven’t “money whipped” any prospect whether portal or HS.

We missed out on our top 3 targets who were all 1-3 round grades and didn't recuit 2 other dudes for whatever reason.  2 of our DL's are only here because Saban retired and the third has battled injuries.  Hopefully they all have huge years because if not, our D isn't getting off the field.  We will find out Week 2 if they are up to task, but even then, UM is rebuilding their entire oline, lost all 5 starters.    

We run a 2-4-5, we're fine at DT.
