Vic Schaefer and the No. 1 prospect in 2025 Aliyah Chavez

The Texas Longhorns continue the heavy pursuit of the No. 1 ranked prospect in the 2025 class Aliyah Chavez (Lubbock, Texas/Monterey).

Texas is one of four schools considered to have the best shot to land the scoring machine. along with LSU, Texas Tech and Oklahoma.

Chavez is seen as once in a decade or two level prospect out of the state of Texas.

The 5-9 point guard averaged 37.8 points as a junior, including 187 three-point makes at 41%. She has connected on 445 three-pointers in three seasons at 42%.

Chavez by the numbers:

2023-24: 37.8 points, 10.1 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 3.5 steals.

2022-23: 30.0 points, 7.2 rebounds, 5.2 assists and 3.1 steals.

2021-22: 25.7 points, 7.7 rebounds, 6.7 assists and 2.3 steals.

Career points headed into senior season: 3,345

After seeing what Caitlin Clark did for the Iowa program, Texas HAS to land Chavez.

She’s probably too 100 in the boys rankings… she is DIFFERENT in person. The passes she’s able to make, is insane.

Are any of her stats records?

Scoring wise ... may not even be close to national records. She's 2,000 short of the all-time record, so would need a huge season. 46.1 per game is the all time scoring average leader.

Three-point makes in a season and all-time after the 2024-25 season, yes. The 187 makes in 2023-24 is a single season record for girls HS basketball nationally. The current all-time 3's made record is 588

Kim Mulkey has been front and center at Monterey High as much as rules allow.

Whip that trick!

I will be more crushed if we don’t get her than any football or men’s basketball recruit we’ve ever missed out on. She slots in perfectly to come in as Rori graduates. Chavez and Booker would be such a hellacious duo for 2 years.

Yes. LSU, Texas and Texas Tech IMO.

Am I wrong in not liking Mulkey? Hate is a strong word so I used “not liking”.
