MLB proposing changes to draft eligibility in new CBA, eliminating high school eligibility and lowering the draft age to 20.  Would be huge for college programs and Texas if it goes through.

So players won't be able to go straight from high school, but they could leave college sooner.  I don't mind that change

A change like this would have a few trickle down effects:

Colleges would be able to retain elite, top recruits out of the high school ranks without fear of losing kids immediately to the MLB Draft. 

To me, it reads as the MLB wanting to use college baseball more as a developmental source for its top product. I bet you see a low level of college A-ball wiped out. 

I also read it as schools with strong developmental histories would greatly benefit from this change. The SEC, Carolina schools, California schools, etc. 

We will see what happens. But could certainly increase the level of talent across the board at the college ball level.

Major League Baseball trying to get colleges to do their low level player development and reduce overhead.

Texas has had some absolute STUDS in the past they never made it to campus. this would be cool

Yep. Brett Baty, Kyle Mueller, Simeon Woods-Richardson all would’ve been Horns.

Imagine Emerson and Bumilla on campus next year 😂😂🔥🔥.. Schloss’ elite recruiting would really make Texas scary every year 

This actually makes a lot of sense from the MLB side.  

- Reduces the bad early evaluations on the high school kids and capital commitments

- NIL allows college programs to be the defacto lower level minor league system

- MLB can allocate the money saved back to increasing the slot values in the top rounds

These are just a few reasons that jump out but I could see the MLBPA pushing back on age requirements for eligibility for high school kids and possibly other things.

The Pro CBA - they have to approve this for it to go into affect.  NCAA has no control over Pro eligibility.

The big part that the MLBPA is going to push back on is the owners wanting a salary cap.  thats going to lead to a strike

I like this. I agree that it would be cool to watch those younger elite talents on college teams instead of hearing about them in 4 or 5 years.

Would be great for college baseball and would help with growing the game

Yep - and Grady Emerson (consensus top 2 player in next month's draft) would also be a Longhorn.

Does the MLB retain single-A ball?  Pathway for kids who don't go to college to make it into MLB?

Recent history would suggest that the NCAA doesn't have control over anything.
