Update at 5:41 pm CT on Tuesday: Torres has committed to Texas

Florida State softball transfer SS Isa Torres, the reigning national player of the year, is in the transfer portal and OTF is working the phones on where Texas stands in pursuit of one of the biggest names in college softball.

Here's what we have at 2:25 p.m. CT on Tuesday ...

OTF has communicated with two people in Torres' close circle, both of which have declined to share any specifics as to where things stand with Texas, or in the portal process as a whole.

What does that mean?

Torres is likely in decision-making mode and our belief is it's going to be a situation where Torres is announced at her school of choice, rather than there be a series of public visits, interviews, updates, etc.

We know Texas has high interest in adding the All-American, and she happens to be right up the road in Georgetown.

Just know this is going to be a very hush-hush recruitment until news breaks.

One separate source outside of Torres' circle, but with knowledge of the college softball landscape, also mentioned Texas Tech in the race.

Stay tuned.

She want to play for back to back national champions or back to back runner up participation trophies? Easy choice for me especially since she’s from georgetown.

Think you try to sign her and figure it out later. Probably want her more for her hitting than anything.

I think that could for sure play into it

Thanks Hank! This will be the most followed thread while you keep digging up info. We all appreciate your effort here.

If only it were that easy; there's an extremely high likelihood that Tech is throwing crazy money a la million dollar Canady at her considering SS was the only position they weren't able to buy last year (though they did try chasing Torres last year from reports).  If it's significantly more than what Texas offers, it's a hard decision to make.  I hate Lubbock and Tech, but life changing money would be hard to pass up.

I know that NIL at Texas is good, but could it come close or surpass it?  That's what Torres needs to figure out.

Money

Tech's motivation to outspend everyone will be at an all time high after all their embarrassments lately. Especially losing to Texas for the 2nd straight year

I know I’m in the minority on this, so don’t drag me lol, but there’s not enough $$$$ anyone could throw at me to ever get me to go to ttu. Hook’em all freakin’ day! 🤘

Tech will do ANYTHING to change the topic and deflect the narrative from the last few weeks.  No amount of $$$ is too much for them to get the egg off their faces.

Do you take the money that Tech is throwing at you, or do you take less money at Texas and potentially be a key cog in a run at a 3-peat and possibly the best season in Texas softball history?  She would be the Cam Coleman level addition for Texas softball in the portal if she chooses them.  Tough call to make.

Vivi Martinez has more eligibility, right? So, if we get this stud SS, who plays where?

@Bobby Burton

I thought rev share was supposed to prevent schools like Tech from giving outrageous amounts of money? Or is that just football?

Fair market value for high profile players in all sport is 6-7 figures

Vivi played 2nd and SS her freshman year. She also played both in high school. I assume Vivi moves to 2nd.

2 errors  playing SS is fantastic glove work. Great defensive players up the middle are a worth a lot money.

I would imagine we would offer that.

Do you think her being a Nike sponsored athlete will have any sway on where she end up? Tech is an Adidas school I believe.
