Nobody did, but Swain has more of an NBA game... what he needed to do was make contested three's and answer the bell vs. SEC (highest level comp) over a season. Swain had an NBA frame and NBA ability off dribble and high IQ of offensive ball.

Matas has a key NBA issue ... he can't defend in the NBA unless he makes major changes. Hard be a drop coverage defender, and be a low block only threat on O and go in the first round. This 2027 draft may give him a shot, but that hasn't been a 1st rounder very often at all.

To further Gerry's point, the NBA doesn't play centers in the post with their back to basket anymore. (That's not to say they shouldn't, but they don't.) Matas needs to become a better rim protector without fouling. He needs to show the ability to pass and screen better. All of this entails better quickness and lateral movement. Then he could get into the first round.

I would like to point out that some of us started talking about Swain going between 14-18 as early as February. I'll stand by my claim that Swain will be better than Yaxel, Ament, Steinbach, and I'll throw in Morez Johnson. He'll be better than two or three of the guards too, but we'll need to wait to see who. 

Why will he be better? He can run offense without shooting himself, and he can get in the paint and score. Defensively, he'll be able to switch 1-4, and he has the length and athleticism to be a really good defender. If his outside shooting improves moderately, he's an all-star player.

Yes. Our NBA first round pick on Swain predictions started about then for sure. 

Yaxel is nuts. I'm interested to see if he can stay locked in for the long haul.

In terms of 2027's making decisions ... the September-late October OV's will be the whole deal for the majority of prospects the level Texas will be after.

Beckham Black is the top PG target in the cycle, Reese Alston is No. 2. I don't recall even mentioning A&M and Reese. They weren't ever going to be a factor. He's a blue blood'ish recruitment.

Different. Wabbington is a more skilled big that will end up being able to face up well enough.

Big season for Tre Johnson with the Wiz coming up. I argued last spring that he wasn't really as good as many thought. Looks like he's about the fourth guard in the Wiz rotation, behind luminaries like Will Riley. Hope he gets it going.

It won’t be from a lack of effort. I thought he did well. First time dealing with an 82 game schedule. I completely agree it’s a big season for him. Wizards are god awful, but they have added some decent pieces to their roster. Still won’t change the fact that they lost on purpose last year.
