You don't go into the NSD press conference and mention the need to sure up the OL in the portal 3 times just for funsies

To me it was a clear message to guys looking for an opportunity (well, agents) that Texas is gonna be in the market big time.

Is it me or does 6-7 guys playing guard seem kind of tall?  I just think you need a more low center of gravity guy, 6-3 to 6-4, maybe 6-5 max, 330# wide body road grader.  Yes 6-7 guys with long arms all day at tackles.

Hayden connor was 6'7 at guard i think

2024 Media Guide had Hayden Conner at 6-5, 320.

I understand that stroh is going into the portal.

Unpopular I know.  And the portal cures all diseases and causes world peace.  But some of our players will get better and might just win the job even if we bring in new players .  So I think the fanbase will be happy with whoever is the best at each position.  Anybody remember Dominic Espinosa, or Christian Jones, they got better as the years moved on.

Who exactly did you have in mind?

Any one of the 10 or so lineman we recruited to play for us.  Whichever one or more develop and gets strong enough to play for us. Or not, maybe a transfer wins the job.  What did you have in mind?  Scrap everyone on campus and start over?

Why would I want that?  That’s crazy.

I was just asking to see if you had a particular player in mind that you thought would show solid growth and possible start next year. Nothing more.

Ok, sorry.  No, I’m not an insider.  I wish our strength program maybe was a little better.  I don’t want to guess if it’s up to par, but the law of averages says some of these large humans if developing physically and learning proper technique should be able to move people around by their 3rd or 4th year in the program . If not, we have a fundamentals teaching  problem,  our schemes are too complicated for college students to learn in 3/4 years, or our big boys  aren’t getting strong  enough! That is something Sark gets paid alot to assess.  Maybe he should take a look at firing some of these peeps quickly if he wants to  turn things around!.  Although, I am on board with the defensive changes ( and I liked PK) the floor there was high.  The floor for the interior  offensive line doesn’t  exist.  Start there.  Fix that glaring problem .

Less patience for development these days.

Hutson, Stroh, Robertson aren’t going to magically get better. They are what they are and in Hutson’s case he’s been the same guy since his freshmen season. We have severe talent and mentality deficiency in our interior products, see Daniel Cruz as a shining example of the mentality deficiency.

if you couldn’t push for starter reps or pass up guys this year at LG and C then that doesn’t say a lot of good things about your ability.

Hutson is the only one with substantial experience.    Lots of factors that go into whether someone is maxed out.  I’d say few college football players are maxed out.

Bo Nix and Michael Penix may be as good examples as any to say there’s room to improve.   Um T Sweat, Vernon Broughton as recent examples. Going back in time, there’s a reason there’s a Gaskamp award.
