Four-star cornerback Dhillon McGee out of Red Oak (Texas) will announce his commitment on June 25, he confirmed on Tuesday morning. The finalists are Texas, Penn State, and SMU. McGee will officially visit Austin June 19-21, meaning the Longhorns will have the last crack at the in-state cornerback during OV season. The 6-foot-1, 175-pound McGee recorded 31 tackles and 15 pass breakups last during his junior season. Texas has one defensive back committed thus far in Karnell "Greedy" James. Texas coaches are on the road The Texas staff is on the road recruiting to end the off week. Some coaches began making stops Wednesday, and some will be out Thursday and Friday. Nansen in California Johnny Nansen was at Folsom (Calif.) High Wednesday to see 4-star++ DL commit Josiah Sharma. Sharma, 6-4 and 320-pounds, is solid with Texas per a source close to the recruitment. Sharma attended the Texas vs. Georgia game October 19th weekend. Dating back to 1989, the Dandy Dozen is arguably the most prestigious award/list a Mississippi HSFB player could be named to. Matt Zenitz of 247Sports has reported Texas EDGE J'Mond Tapp has entered the NCAA Transfer Portal. Tapp appeared in seven games in 2023 while accumulating eight tackles in his 98 snaps. A member of the 2022 class, Tapp displayed plenty of promise, though with the addition of Colin Simmons, Trey Moore and the return of Colton Vasek, the defensive end room got crowded quickly. The Texas Longhorns are expected to add Western Kentucky DL coach Kwahn Drake to the staff in an assistant defensive line coach capacity, per Matt Zenitz. Drake was hired a month ago at WKU after spending three seasons with the Houston Roughnecks and Houston Gamblers of the USFL and UFL leagues. Prior to that, Drake had spent time at Colorado, Memphis, Tulane, Kansas and Eastern Illinois, all in defensive line capacities. The two years at Kansas were spent under Les Miles.
