The ultra-productive linebacker from Port Arthur Memorial will officially visit Texas during the June 13 weekend, OTF has learned.

Houston (Texas) Dekaney 4-star WR/ATH Tanook Hines is close to locking in an official visit to Texas June 21-23. Hines, 6-1 and 190 with 10.53 FAT 100 speed, is leaning to Texas over Ole Miss for the final OV after Texas (Chris Jackson/Jeff Banks) stopped by the school in recent days. Hines has OV’s locked in to USC May 31-June 2, Notre Dame June 7-9 and Baylor June 14-16. The Fighting Irish have been trending in recent weeks. Hines attended Texas junior day January 20. Steve Sarkisian first watched Hines play in 2022 when Dekaney took on Eisenhower. Hines was the best WR on the field that day as a sophomore over Ryan Niblett and Jonah Wilson. …

Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram is reporting that Texas RB coach Tashard Choice is expected to interview with the Dallas Cowboys soon. Choice is a former Cowboys player and has a long-standing relationship with owner Jerry Jones. Jones has even had Choice meet with the Cowboys’ rookie running backs in seasons prior. Choice makes $700,000 per year with the Longhorns. Most NFL RB assistants are paid in the $400k range. Choice almost certainly is due a raise with the Longhorns this off-season. Tashard Choice visited a top RB target Friday Texas running backs coach Tashard Choice made a key stop in the Atlanta area Friday. Choice made his way to Sandy Creek High in Tyrone, Ga. to see 2026 4-star Amari Latimer. Latimer, 6-0 and 200 pounds, sports 25 offers to date including Texas. Choice offered the Peach State star January 25, 2024. Since that time, Latimer has been on campus, and spent time with the entire offensive staff. Texas tight end Amari Niblack has been named to the 2024 Mackey Award preseason watch list. The Mackey Award is typically awarded to the country's top tight end. Texas tight end Amari Niblack will enter the NCAA Transfer Portal, first reported by Matt Zenitz. Niblack saw 90 snaps of game time in 2024 for the Longhorns, about a quarter of what he saw at Alabama in 2023. The Alabama transfer recorded five catches for 33 yards. When the Longhorns moved to playing more 12 personnel, it was mainly Juan Davis who trotted onto the field. For most of the season, the Longhorns kept Niblack at bay. Texas and Georgia are set to kickoff in roughly 28 hours or so which means final details are being finalized and gameplans are being set. The last injury report released did not indicate any movement from the Texas health perspective. Kelvin Banks was still listed as questionable and Quinn Ewers was a notable omission. Texas received some unfortunate injury news over the weekend, as starting right tackle contender Andre Cojoe has been ruled out for the season. Cojoe had been in the best physical condition of his career and was competing closely with sophomore Brandon Baker for the starting job at right tackle. Hearing more and more about offensive lineman Connor Stroh having a very strong fall camp. Stroh has started running some with the 1s on a regular basis, even when Neto Umeozulu is not pushed out to tackle. Stroh’s size and ability to move some of the bigger Texas DLs has caught the eyes of coaches. Umeozulu has been very physical in camp. But Stroh’s size is just hard to overcome, especially as Texas looks to deploy a somewhat different run scheme this season. We don’t know what the exact rotation will be - whether Stroh has outright won the job or if he will spell Umeozulu - but suffice to say Stroh is expected to see action on Saturday barring something unfor…

Texas is headed to Fayetteville for their matchup against Arkansas as we speak. While I am trekking the unamusing streets of Oklahoma, the team will be flying out of Austin and landing soon this morning. I did catch up with a source regarding the week of practice ahead of the trip to Fayetteville this weekend. Black, who was a starting cornerback in the spring showcase, also repped a little at safety in the spring. OTF was informed earlier this week that Black is going to work more at safety this summer and leading into August practices. While digging around for intel on CJ Baxter's injury late last evening, those conversations spilled into what else happened on the field during the first passed practice of fall camp. To set the stage for the weekend, Texas will have a lighter practice on Friday before going live for its first scrimmage of the fall on Saturday. A number of the newcomers have caught the eye and attention of those in Moncrief Neuhaus thus far. It is a huge week for Texas and more importantly Steve Sarkisian. Coming into the Red River Shootout as the No. 1 team in the land has been a rarity for the Texas Longhorns in the series history — though they will be adding a tally to that count on Saturday. Echoing what Bobby Burton said earlier today, Quinn Ewers has been healthy and practicing well for the last week and a half. A couple of team nuggets from practice this week as the team enjoys its bye week. *** – First off, Thursday marked the final practice of the week for the Longhorns. Several players on the team will go home this weekend to unwind and spend time with family and friends away from Austin.
