New Texas DB Coaches in Contact with 2026 ATH Jalen Lott Quick little trip over to McKinney North for a Friday afternoon track meet while up in DFW this weekend. The focal point was to catch up with 2026 Panther Creek ATH Jalen Lott who was competing in the long and high jump during the meet. Lott will wrap up his competition and board a flight to Eugene to visit the Oregon Ducks this weekend. Following then, Lott's spring break will be spent on visits to Ohio State and Georgia – both of which will be his first time to each campus. Friday recruiting notes The Texas Longhorns will host several visitors this week at various times. The times are dependent on when the Texas Relays end for one prospect. OnTexasFootball takes a look at some notes as the weekend begins. Battling Alabama ... Jackson (Al.) High 4-star++ running back Ezavier Crowell is on campus for a two day visit. Five-star visitor headed to Austin this weekend Five-star linebacker and current USC pledge Xavier Griffin (Gainesville, Ga./High) is scheduled to make an unofficial visit this weekend per a close to the recruitment. Texas linebacker coach Johnny Nansen and area recruiting Kenny Baker made a stop at Gainesville High in January, and have been in steady communication since. This will be the 6-foot-3.5, 215-pounders first visit to Texas this weekend. The plan for the Texas staff is to then secure a June official visit. We’re halfway through spring practice and I think a couple of themes are becoming evident. First, Texas is clearly a younger team than the last two Steve Sarkisian has put on the field. Second, this Texas team, while younger, is just as talented overall, if not more so. At every single position on the field, Texas has at least one future NFL player if not more. Texas is extraordinarily talented despite being younger. Three, there are several team leaders emerging. Texas sits 43 OV's with three new additions The Texas Longhorns are up 43 official visits scheduled for June with two new visits locked in already from the weekend. Peach State 4-star+ EDGE Dre Quinn (Norcross, Ga./Greater Atlanta Christian) has locked in a June 13-15 date, while Pelican State 4-star cornerback Hayward Howard Jr. (New Orleans, La./Edna Karr) is June 6-8. Cal tight end Jack Endries is likely someone the Longhorns will try to go after in the portal. At 6-4, 240, Endries was a freshman All-American two years ago and then caught 56 passes a year ago. He is rated the no. 2 returning tight end in the country by Pro Football Focus. He is expected to enter the portal tomorrow. Indiana, Alabama and Miami are expected to be among the suitors. As the Longhorns gear up to host a red hot Texas A&M team this weekend, I checked with a couple of sources to see where things stand as of Friday morning. First, let's start with some really good news. I'm told that all signs are pointing to freshman Jonah Williams playing against the Aggies this weekend. Texas will hold its fourth practice of training camp later today. It’s scheduled to begin at 6:30pm, just like last night. The first two practices were held in the mid-afternoon of the Texas heat. They’re meant to get a team prepared for the worst conditions. The team got a real feel for that. One Texas player was severely dehydrated and subsequently missed the next couple of practices (yes, I know who it is, but, no, I’m not going to name them). Braylon Hodge update Texas linebackers coach Johnny Nansen extended an offer to Michigan State verbal Braylon Hodge(Denver/Cherry Creek) Wednesday night. Some positives and negatives out of the 55–0 victory over Sam Houston State. *** Good Horn Swagger The game could have ended in the first quarter after Arch Manning ran into the end zone and mean-mugged a Bearkat defender and I would have been more than okay. The 6-foot-5.25, 320-pound current UCLA verbal has seen his stock rise as a senior, despite missing some time with a minor injury. The Longhorns made two new scholarship offers yesterday. North Forney athlete Legend Bey, who has been committed to Tennessee since the summer, was offered by receivers coach Chris Jackson and head coach Steve Sarkisian yesterday. Bey plays quarterback in high school but with 10.6-second 100-meter speed, he likely plays wide receiver in college. He is one of the state’s most electric players. Texas did not offer earlier in the process because Bey initially wanted to play quarterback. But things appear to have changed. Bey recently returned from a visit to Ohio State. Derrek Cooper and Chaminade-Madonna Chaminade-Madonna (11-2) will take on 11-3 Cardinal Newman (West Palm Beach, Fla.) for the FHSAA 1A state title on December 11 at 12:30 p.m. ET. Derrek Cooper enters his final high school game with 152 carries for 1,424 yards (9.4 per carry) and 17 TD's. He's added 105 yards receiving and another score. The Texas Longhorns are expected to add Western Kentucky DL coach Kwahn Drake to the staff in an assistant defensive line coach capacity, per Matt Zenitz. Drake was hired a month ago at WKU after spending three seasons with the Houston Roughnecks and Houston Gamblers of the USFL and UFL leagues. Prior to that, Drake had spent time at Colorado, Memphis, Tulane, Kansas and Eastern Illinois, all in defensive line capacities. The two years at Kansas were spent under Les Miles.
