Previewing Florida Saturday marks the opening of SEC play for the Texas Longhorns. This weekend was a whirlwind of football across the conference and now Texas will be able to join the fun with a trip to The Swamp. As the week of game prep carries on, I wanted to share some numbers regarding Florida and what can be expected for the 2:30 p.m. kickoff this Saturday. *** Quarterback Pressure For a school like Florida, this really surprised me. But the Gators rank 135th out of 136 teams in division one college football in 2025 with only 3.0 sacks. It is the 2nd worst mark in the entire country and again, not something I would have expec…

AUSTIN, Texas – Florida's Defense Set to Welcome Texas to 2025 SEC Play There are plenty of storylines entering the weekend matchup with the Gators in The Swamp. Two former No. 1 overall quarterbacks, two programs trying to find their offensive identity early on in the season and two coaches on different sides of the job security spectrum. But there is one thing that has gone under the radar in regards to the Florida Gators' start to the season in large part due to the wide shadow cast by the inept offense – and that is the Florida Gators have a really tough defense. I asked Steve Sarkisian on Monday what stands out about the Florida defense on tape and wha…

4-star++ SG Bo Ogden announcement thread Austin (Texas) Westlake 4-star++ shooting guard/wing Bo Ogden will announce his commitment at 1 p.m. in the Westlake High gymnasium. The 6-foot-5.5 (w/o shoes) elite shooter with high-end hoops IQ has Texas, Purdue and Tennessee as his three finalists. He made official visits to all three, with Texas being last weekend. The son of Texas general manager and former Texas player Chris Ogden was considered a Purdue lean by OTF under the prior staff, but the hire of Sean Miller instantly changed that and positioned Texas much better. Bo Ogden also considered offers from Virginia, Kansas, SMU and Stanford before cu…

Florida Freshman WR to Debut vs. Texas on Saturday Star Florida freshman wide receiver Dallas Wilson is set to make his collegiate debut on Saturday against the Texas Longhorns, according to head coach Billy Napier. Napier told reporters on Monday that the freshman phenom was back on the practice field last week and is progressing well. “We’ll see as we go throughout the week,” Napier said during his Monday press conference. “But three good days of work last week. And I thought he handled the load well. We’ll be getting the report each day in terms of what the numbers look like and where he’s at. But he feels really good and so far so good.” Wilson, a …

Four-star SG Bo Ogden commits to the Texas Longhorns Austin (Texas) Westlake 4-star++ shooting guard/wing Bo Ogden just announced his commitment to the Texas Longhorns. The 6-foot-5.5 elite shooter with high-end hoops IQ picked Texas over Purdue and Tennessee after making official visits to all three during the process. Bo Ogden also considered offers from Virginia, Kansas, SMU and Stanford before cutting his list to three. Ogden becomes the first high school commitment for Sean Miller since taking the job at Texas, the same scenario that happened with his father’s recruitment. Texas basketball general manager Chris Ogden was the first high school…

I don’t want this fact to get lost, so I’m going to lead with it this morning. Chris Ogden, the Texas basketball GM, was Rick Barnes’ first high school recruit. Yesterday, his son, Bo, officially became the first high school recruit of Sean Miller’s tenure with his pledge to the Longhorns. The Texas blood clearly runs deep in the family. Hopefully the success of Miller’s era at Texas can exceed that of Barnes. After all, Bo is a better prospect than Chris ever was. (Yes, that’s a fun little dig at the father that I think he’ll appreciate.) 😉 ** One more thing on hoops: Gerry Hamilton and Jeff Howe will be interviewing Texas coa…

Trip to Gainesville is Another Opportunity for Texas to Take Territory in Florida Florida’s ownership has changed hands several times throughout history. Originally home to Indigenous peoples, it was claimed by Spain in 1513, ceded to Britain in 1763, returned to Spain in 1783, and finally transferred to the United States in 1821. Eventually, Florida officially became the 27th U.S. state in 1845. Now, the state itself is not up for sale, but there is room for territory to be claimed – especially in the world of recruiting. Texas has etched out some trails of its own over the past few years and will take five players on its current roster back to the S…

Running back CJ Baxter is the only player listed as “doubtful” in this week’s initial injury availability report submitted to conference officials yesterday. Baxter has missed multiple practices in the past week while dealing with a lower leg injury sustained on the very first play of the UTEP game. His absence will limit the Horns’ offensive versatility somewhat. Baxter, when healthy, could pair with Tre Wisner in a two-back set that the Horns have yet to showcase this season. Sark has utilized the alignment with success in previous seasons. Baxter is also the team’s best short-yardage runner, most powerful running back and best pass protector at the …

I’m here in Gainesville, Fla., this morning. Just drove past the bronze statues of Steve Spurrier, Danny Wuerffel and Tim Tebow in front of Ben Hill Griffin Stadium where the Longhorns will face the Gators tomorrow afternoon. Texas and Florida, both teams, are at a crossroads for this season. Neither team has matched their preseason hopes. While the Horns are 3-1, Texas has not really looked like a top ten team. A top 10 defense? Yes. But not a top ten team, not yet at least. The Gators, meanwhile, have all but written the eulogy for coach Billy Napier with a 1-3 start, including an inexplicable home loss to South Florida. A victory over the Horns woul…

GAINESVILLE, Florida – SEC play is officially underway for the Texas Longhorns. Texas *** 1st Quarter Texas won the toss and will kickoff to begin this contest. Will Stone is back on kickoff duties. I really hope this is not how the game goes, a forced fumble on the first play of the game ends up fumbled but goes right back into the lap of Dallas Wilson. Florida’s first rush attempt goes for nine yards as well. Florida has really dragged this Texas defense around the field. Really ugly start for the Texas defense who allows an opening drive touchdown on 13 plays and over 7-minutes of gametime. Time for Arch Manning. First throw of the da…

I was surprised by a lot of things on Saturday afternoon in Gainesville. But I was downright shocked by one: the poor play of the Texas defense. From the very beginning, the interior of the Texas front couldn’t get off blocks. They were whipped time and time again. Florida running backs were allowed to dance in the holes before any Texas defender made contact. And the edges lost contain multiple times. The Gators were in more 2nd and 4s, 5s or 6s, than any of us care to count. Florida controlled the line of scrimmage. That was the story of this game. The second level of the Texas defense didn’t acquit themselves any better. To start, Tex…

The morning after: Culture test coming in Dallas What Texas fans witnessed Saturday in The Swamp was the worst Texas Longhorns performance in a while, quite possibly since at Arkansas in 2021. All week we gave the Florida defense credit for being really good, physical and playing very well in losses at LSU and Miami. But what I saw in Gainesville was deeply concerning. This Texas team boarded a plane to Gainesville with the understanding that this was as close to a "must-win" game as a team can have by week five in a season after the season opening loss at Ohio State. This should have been a team that played with the most physicality, emotion …

The pass protection for Arch Manning vs Florida was horrendous. Do we really think it’s going to get any better against Oklahoma? That’s the prevailing question swirling in my mind this morning. The Sooners’ defense will likely make mincemeat of the Texas OL. For it to get any better, Texas must establish some level of a run game while also executing better overall and identifying actual pass rushers and not just the guys feigning their blitzes. ** So how did we get here? To a place where the Texas OL is the clear weak spot on this team? The excuse-maker in me would say that Cam Williams probably should have returned for another season a…
