Almost every Texas football season I remember can be summed up into two parts. What happens before OU. And what happens after. That’s what this game so often means. It’s the ultimate measuring stick of both programs. Making the drive from Fayetteville to Dallas and then Dallas to Austin last night allowed for a lot of time of reflection of this Texas football team. Sure, there are parts of the identity about this Texas team that may not be living up to expectations from early August. Steve Sarkisian in his halftime interview with ESPN says QB Quinn Ewers suffered a strained abdomen. Ewers is done for the night with Texas leading 28–7. A strained abdomen can range from a week or two to several months depending on severity. At the moment, severity is not known. Among the 14, there is not a single player with a more polarizing draft projection than former Texas QB Quinn Ewers. Texas Athletic Director Chris Del Conte announced Wednesday evening at the Texas Town Hall the spring game will be returning in just a few months. I am sure many of you already have, but if you have not, mark you calendars for April 18th. Texas Prioritizing Recovery During Bye Week *** Texas is just about through with their bye week's worth of practice. And I should use the term practice very loosely. For most of the week, Texas utilized walk-throughs to allow for the team to recharge their batteries after five consecutive weeks of play and hours of travel in between. There was a focus on cleaning up the mental side of the game, especially on the back end of the secondary. But all in all, not much physical strain was put on the Longhorns. Tramon Mark’s last two shots will make all the highlight reels, as they should. But I felt like the real hero of last night’s Texas 68-66 win over NC State in the play-in game of the NCAA tourney was Chendall Weaver. Weaver finished with the first double-double of his career. He was 3-5 from the field and 5-6 from the free throw line. He also had two steals and just one turnover. Weaver did not leave the court from the 16-minute mark of the second half to the end of the game. A key role player during the season, Weaver’s all-around play was a focal point last night. Texas continues to pick up commitments in the 2026 class with the verbal pledge from Prosper punter Mikey Bukauskas. The Longhorns hosted Bukauskas for an official visit over the weekend and come out on top over Clemson, a team that was viewed as the favorite coming into the weekend. As it stands now, five-star cornerback John Meredith III has official visit dates scheduled for: Alabama -- May 29-31 Texas -- June 5-7 Texas A&M -- June 12-14 Ohio State -- June 19-21 OTF has learned that a shakeup could be made to the slate, with the Aggies visit moving to the May 29-31 slot and the Alabama visit either being called off or moved to another date. Meredith has the OT7 finals from June 12-14, making a visit that weekend impossible.
