I've read way too much bs over the last 24 hours. Texas got beat on a recruit. Yes. Was it a tough loss? Absolutely. Have there been others, too? Steve Sarkisian in his halftime interview with ESPN says QB Quinn Ewers suffered a strained abdomen. Ewers is done for the night with Texas leading 28–7. A strained abdomen can range from a week or two to several months depending on severity. At the moment, severity is not known. As you all know by now, summer workouts started at the beginning of this month. I can confirm that everyone has made it to campus. This includes the incoming freshmen that weren’t early enrollees and all portal players. — I’m told that workouts are going very well, but that they are extremely difficult. Some days include both a morning session, followed by a mid to late afternoon session. Player accountability amongst the team seems to be a driving point this summer. The Texas One Fund held its annual fundraiser last night with dignitaries across the Longhorn spectrum in attendance. From coaches, to players, to administrators and ardent supporters and even celebrities and politicians, like Joe Rogan and Tulsi Gabbard, it was an event to behold. Lynyrd Skynyrd, Leon Bridges and Parker McCollum were the musical guests. Held at DKR, guests were seated on the football field. It also included both live and silent auctions of donated prizes. Mike White and the Texas softball team are returning to the Women’s College World Series for the third time in four years following their 6-5 victory over Clemson last night. The Horns won the best two-of-three game series after dropping the first contest on Thursday night and then winning an extra innings thriller deep into Friday evening. The final two games were a measure in resiliency for the Horns. Friday night’s game included a season-saving situation where Clemson had runners on second and third base with no outs. Texas clinched its fourth Director’s Cup as the nation’s best college athletic program in the last five years last night. The Texas women’s track team finished in 10th place, which was just enough to out point USC and Stanford. The winner of the Director’s Cup was literally decided on the second to last race of the women’s meet last night. A win is a win but it was truly by the narrowest of margins. How close? Had a Stanford runner finished in second in the 5,000 meters instead of third (something Stanford challenged), the Cardinal would have won the cup by virtue of moving up overall in the track standings. A freshman check-in: Derrek Cooper and Jermaine Bishop have been very early revelations on offense for Texas. Both offer the Texas offense something it otherwise lacks. Cooper has size and speed, and perhaps more shiftiness than people realize. That shiftiness and outright speed were the two things pointed out to me when I asked how Cooper compares to Cedric Baxter when he was a healthy freshman.
