There was a lot of talent on display at yesterday’s Texas pro day. The secondary group of Michael Taaffe, Manny Muhammad, and Jaylon Guilbeau was stout. The two linebackers - Anthony Hill and Trey Moore - were, too. DJ Campbell and Cole Hutson worked on the OL, Jack Endries at TE, and Cole Brevard, Travis Shaw, and Ethan Burke along the defensive front. I read yesterday’s Jeff Howe article on the 2021 recruiting class and its importance to the Texas program and Steve Sarkisian’s success with a lot of interest. There are a couple of reasons why: 1. The positive difference I see in the 2021 class compared to many previous ones is the “development” of the class itself. The Longhorns made two new scholarship offers yesterday. North Forney athlete Legend Bey, who has been committed to Tennessee since the summer, was offered by receivers coach Chris Jackson and head coach Steve Sarkisian yesterday. Bey plays quarterback in high school but with 10.6-second 100-meter speed, he likely plays wide receiver in college. He is one of the state’s most electric players. Texas did not offer earlier in the process because Bey initially wanted to play quarterback. But things appear to have changed. Bey recently returned from a visit to Ohio State. The news broke yesterday that portal transfer Laurence Seymore, an offensive guard who was named second team All-American by one press outlet last year, had been granted his sixth year by the NCAA to play for Texas in 2026. Texas personnel had long been confident that Seymore would receive the additional year because of the unique circumstances surrounding Seymore’s appeal. While I can’t (and won’t) give exact specifics, Seymore’s lost year when he transferred to Akron came because of something that occurred off the field.
