The portal isn’t very fun right now, right? Until the imports start rolling in, that’s largely the mood across the Longhorn fanbase. As of this writing, Texas is up to 19 portal entrants and will likely hit 20 soon. That number itself isn’t surprising. I reported in mid-December that 20 would be the expected mark. The real question is how much higher it climbs. With several names still in balance, a total in the mid-20s is very much in play for the 2026 cycle. What is surprising is who has entered. I have confirmed that pitcher Sophia Bordi is no longer on the team. Bordi, who transferred to Texas from Oklahoma, was ranked as the nation's No. 1 pitcher in the 2026 recruiting class. The former Gatorade New Jersey Player of the Year never pitched for the Longhorns, as she was ineligible for the 2026 season due to transfer rules. Texas Tech LHP Samantha Lincoln has committed to Texas, according to her social media pages. The rising junior from Taunton, Mass. appeared in 25 games, with 12 starts in 2026. She registered a 3.47 era and an undefeated 7-0 record. For the year, Lincoln struck out 67 batters. She threw 3.1 innings against Texas in Game 1 of the WCWS Finals, allowing 2 earned runs and striking out one Longhorn. Texas will welcome back legendary Longhorn Teagan Kavan for at least one more season, but has to replace veteran pitcher Citlaly Gutierrez as well as Cambria Salmon, a reserve pitcher, who entered the transfer portal this offseason. Over the weekend it was announced that Stanford Softball ace pitcher NiJaree Canady would be entering the transfer portal. Texas fans immediately wanted to know if the Longhorns would be interested and for good reason. This past season for the Cardinal, Canady posted a 0.73 ERA and 337 strikeouts with only 44 walks. Now, with two seasons of eligibility remaining, the Kansas native looks to find a new home. One of the main reasons, I'm told, is because she's not a fan of Stanford's move to the ACC. With spring ball now in the books, it's up to the players to maximize their chemistry as we inch closer to the season. I'm told a certain group of Longhorns are doing just that this upcoming weekend, with multiple players heading to Louisiana together for private workouts. The No. 4 ranked Texas Women’s Basketball team is just moments away from taking on No. 2 ranked South Carolina. Yesterday the Horns beat No. 3 UCLA with just seven players. That will be the case again for this game and probably for the foreseeable future. Freshman phenom Aaliyah Crump is in a boot after a foot injury. Unfortunately, sources have told me that she will be out awhile. Texas is also expected to be without senior guard Ashton Judd and sophomore guard Bryanna Preston as well. There is no timetable for their return as of now. The road doesn’t get any easier after tonight’s game either, as both Baylor and North Carolina loom large.

- Volantis didn’t have the best game by any stretch of the imagination, but he was still good. Him giving up four lead off hits is not like him at all, but he didn’t get rattled. Not to mention he was in multiple high pressure situations and still delivered. - I thought it was interesting that Schloss and Max have had a tight leash on pitchers all season, but Volantis had an extremely long one all night, going 106 pitches and 5.1 innings. Everything we have heard for weeks is a Bama vs. Texas decision likely with Georgia and Auburn the other OV's. And that has also been Bama having the most confidence since early May. The Longhorns continue to look to the portal to fill roster holes and will host two visitors today. One of those visitors is LSU RHP Marcos Paz. Last season Paz posted a 1-4 record and 9.20 ERA in 17 appearances, including six starts, while racking up 40 strikeouts and 27 walks in 29.1 innings. Don't let the numbers fool you, however, as Paz is very talented and many other SEC schools have tried to get in on him, including Texas A&M and Georgia. As of Friday afternoon, the Longhorns have gained commitments from two players in the portal. Jack Moroknek - Outfielder - Butler Moroknek can play both left and right field, but more importantly can make an impact in the batter’s box. This past season he garnered All Big-East second team awards, after hitting .372 at the plate with a 1.145 OPS, 16 doubles and 18 home runs (led the team). Sources told On Texas Football on Tuesday that Texas will kick off the program’s fifth spring under coach Steve Sarkisian with the first of 15 practices on Tuesday, March 25. The University of Texas has its sights on a new head baseball coach. Jim Schlossnagle is set to become the next head coach at Texas, as first reported by Horns247's Chip Brown. Sources have indicated to OTF the hiring will be official in the next day or two. Schlossnagle spent three seasons at Texas A&M, leading the Aggies to two College World Series trips (2022 and 2024).
