Nobody in Austin is surprised Dakorien Moore de-committed from LSU. For us at OTF, it was a matter of when. After Moore and family members visited earlier in the spring, I had it at 51% for Texas. I now have it at 65% for Texas. A lot of pull on the Texas side, and confidence in Austin remains high. One thing I have continued to say about this recruitment on the OTF YouTube channel is that video commitment to LSU is not the final announcement/commitment of a top 5-10 prospect in the country. That jut wasn’t playing out that way. What’s next for Moore Oregon was trying/scheduled to get Moore on campus this weekend for an OV. Per a fami…

Yesterday I gave you all my personal rankings of the SEC in its entirety. Texas came in 2nd behind Georgia, as most would expect and accept at the moment. Today, we will tackle the top wide receivers corps in the SEC which may end up being a bit more problematic based off of the rankings compared to yesterday. Texas did a tremendous job adding weapons to this room following three draft picks in this spring's NFL Draft. Though, it remains a bit of a wait and see regarding if the production will match the talent. (rec./yards/TD) in 2023 *** 1. Missouri Projected Starters: Luther Burden (86/1212/9), Mookie Cooper (36/447/0), Theo Wease (49/682/6) …

This week in the SEC: The Tickle me Elko era begins OnTexasFootball takes a look at SEC games weekly this season, and that begins this week with a full slate of out of conference games beginning Thursday. SEC Game of the Week The Tickle me Elko era gets going Saturday night in College Station with over 100,000 Aggies paying for Jimbo's lifetime contract looking to Bush push Elko to a 1-0 start against No. 7 Notre Dame. The No. 20 ranked Aggies have a new staff and a lot of new faces out of the portal. Notre Dame will start a true freshman left tackle in a very hostile environment. The line: Texas A&M -3 O/U: 46.5 Kirby looking to make Clem…

Let's dive into some of the numbers that decided the game against Colorado State in the 2024 season opener. Of course, the largest number of them all was the 52–0 scoreboard at the end of the day. Texas fans will be pleased with that type of performance every single time, *** Quinn Ewers Passing Chart A pretty solid start to the campaign for Quinn Ewers. He was accurate, he was efficient in the red zone and he did not overextend himself. The INT is the only blemish on the sheet his week. Three drops didn't help his tally, but this was an encouraging week one for Texas and their QB1. *** Playmakers With Juice It was evide…

Willie Nelson is playing on my car radio. I’m headed north to Ann Arbor. All is right in the world. ** All is right in San Cosmi’s world, too. The former Longhorn just signed a huge deal with the Washington Commanders with $45mm guaranteed. This is a sign of just how average Texas OL has been the last decade and why things are changing now. Cosmi becomes just the second Texas OL in the last decade to get a second contract from an NFL team. How many OLs currently in the Texas program do you think will get second contracts? My guess is four or five, at least. They may not all be starting this year, but that room has led the team transf…

July 21, 2021, the day it was announced that both Texas and Oklahoma would be departing from the Big 12 to join the SEC conference. It has been a long three years since that day. Texas was humiliated on the road against Arkansas and missed going bowling in year one under Sarkisian, but then hope arrived with Quinn Ewers and a pair of five-star offensive linemen. Still, there remained a long ways to go to get this program where it needed to be for the rigor of the typical SEC schedule. Day by day, month by month and recruit by recruit, Texas inched closer towards having a roster necessary to compete in the most physical conference in college football. Satu…

Texas basketball report: What I saw Saturday Had the opportunity to watch the Texas basketball team practice Saturday. One, the roster is what OTF had been told and expected ... night and day from last season. Takeaways from Saturday Tre Johnson is every bit as expected. He's a first rounder that could be a lottery pick. The offensive skill level was known, but what jumped out was his competitiveness against older players. Even some s*&! talking and on court leadership on a much older team. That was both interesting and fun to see. Kadin Shedrick is healthy, and looks like a different player. Much more confident, challenged shots at the rim…

I’m told the first two days of practice this week have been crisp. The Longhorns have executed well, been focused and appear ready to go. ** I’m told Quinn Ewers has shown no signs of any lingering injury issues although trainers and coaches are monitoring him closely. ** Expect some surprises in this game coming from both teams. The Sooners offense may go heavy with the zone read in an attempt to control some of the clock and keep things simple for their freshman QB. Their defense may try to deploy some three-high looks that have given Sark and Ewers some issues over the past couple of years. Anything and everything is on the table, includin…

You gotta love this time of year. Not only is Texas in the heat of the race for the college football playoff but the Horns are also in the midst of finalizing the 2025 recruiting class. Gerry Hamilton will be visiting with the Horns’ newest recruiting target, linebacker Kellen Wiley Jr. of Seffner (Fla.) Armwood High School, later this afternoon. With the Horns’ entry into the SEC, it’s a sign of the times that much of the recruiting work that remains for Sark and company is in Florida and Georgia. Texas fans need to get used to the Longhorns tapping into Florida and Georgia more and more in years to come. This will not be a one-year thing. ** …

With the bye week here, it is the final "free" weekend for Texas coaches before the end of the season, so naturally they are hitting the road to recruit. As Gerry Hamilton has reported, Steve Sarkisian is expected to be in Dallas today to see not only five-star OL Michael Fasusi but also several other recruits in the area. Perhaps just as noteworthy, Texas assistant Chris Gilbert went to see OL Lamont Rogers in DFW yesterday as well. It's clear that Texas wants a true OT in this recruiting class, especially with Cameron Williams now looking like a possible early departure to the NFL. Fasusi and Rogers, even though they're committed to Oklahoma and Miss…

There’s a problem with the Texas defense… for opponents. Texas is the no. 1 defense in the country. But the fascinating aspect of this defense is that it’s not just any single overwhelming player who is leading the charge. Instead, it’s a collection of players coming at opponents in a variety of ways, and from all three levels of the defense. Texas not only has Colin Simmons. They have Trey Moore, too. Texas not only has Barryn Sorrell setting the edge. There’s Ethan Burke, too. Alfred Collins is joined by Jermayne Lole who is now rivaling Moore, Andrew Mukuba and Isaiah Bond as the team’s most important off-season portal addition. At linebac…

The Texas Longhorns and Ohio State Buckeyes will play one another for the first time since meeting in the desert in January of 2009. While the two programs typically are not familiar with one another, the Longhorns are certainly familiar with the QB Will Howard. The two have faced off four times prior to the meeting on Friday, all of which occurring while Howard was at Kansas State. Howard lost all four of those games, by the way. But, with a different level of talent surrounding him and the way the Buckeyes have been playing since the Playoffs began, it is going to be a completely different task to earn that fifth head to head victory. Several Longhorns sp…
