I spoke with a couple of sources this morning to get the latest. - Let’s start with OF Jonah Williams, who has been out the last week or so due to a hamstring injury. The Texas state track meet starts today in Austin on the campus of the University of Texas. If you have never been and live anywhere remotely close to Austin, I encourage you to go, especially for one of the night sessions this weekend. Do it at least once in your life. The state track meet is one of those special events that stick with you. It’s similar to the old Texas state championships in basketball that were held at the Drum. 2027 Pflugerville Weiss WR Tre Moore Update I made the quick drive over to Pflugerville to catch up with one of the top 2027 playmakers in the area – WR Tre Moore. On the cuff, Moore is a heck of an athlete, standing 6-foot-3-inches. Moore also grew into his body very well over the last year since I saw him last spring. The portal window is officially - and finally - closed. There can be no new entrants, either undergraduate or graduate until December. Just three Longhorns players total entered this spring - kicker Bert Auburn, punter Michael Kern and offensive lineman Malik Agbo. Meanwhile Texas added five players to its roster. Texas hosted 2026 Oaks Christian (Calif.) DB Davon Benjamin for a three-day visit last Wednesday, leading into the final days of the spring season. Benjamin had been looking to get down to Texas earlier in the spring and was able to make it at the tail end, a big move for the Longhorns in this recruitment. Following the Horns series clenching win over the Aggies on Saturday, I spoke with some sources regarding freshman Jonah Williams. Originally the plan was to play Williams this weekend, if he was ready. As of Friday morning, there was a good feeling he would be back against the Aggies. That changed later that day and we didn’t see Williams in the lineup yesterday or today. You won’t see him tomorrow either, I’m told. Williams tweaked his hamstring against Texas State and the staff is in no hurry to put him back out on the field until he’s good to go. As the Longhorns gear up to host a red hot Texas A&M team this weekend, I checked with a couple of sources to see where things stand as of Friday morning. First, let's start with some really good news. I'm told that all signs are pointing to freshman Jonah Williams playing against the Aggies this weekend. The Big 12, the ACC and others can bellyache all they want about the SEC and Big 10 pushing them around at the negotiating table when it comes to number of playoff spots and other aspects of the future of college football. But last night was a prime example of exactly why the two premier conferences feel justified in doing so. The SEC finished with 15 picks in the first round of the NFL draft. The Big 10 had 11. I mentioned earlier that safety Derrick Williams is still not “fully” back although he has been practicing some. One player who has been full-go this week is receiver Ryan Wingo. Wingo was held out for a lot of spring on a precautionary basis. His hamstring tightened and Texas just didn’t want to risk it, preferring to give it full time to resolve.
